Try This:

To get into the Windows Vista and Windows 7 Safe Mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Once you're in safe mode with networking Uninstall your firewall.

SOURCE: D-Link DIR-625 Wireless Router is Blocking Web Address

Hi jshaw51

HERE's D-Links listing for your router.

HERE's where you can find downloads, etc. for the router. (including an owner's manual) You'll need to choose your router's version then you'll be directed to the appropriate page.

(01) Can you access this web site from any of the other computers on your LAN (when this router is connected)?

(02) Have you ever been able to navigate to this web site from the computer you're referring to while this particular router is connected?

(03) Have you recently installed any other networking equipment or a software firewall on one or more of your LAN computers?

(04) Were you able to ping the LAN computers prior to the onset of this problem?

(05) Can the LAN computers ping your computer? If not, were they able to previously?

(06) Has anything occurred or any changes been made that precipitated or coincided w/ the onset of this problem?

(07) Do you have any other information regarding this issue?

(08) If you like, you can **first** backup your router's configuration and **second** reset it to factory defaults and see if the problem persists.

(09) You can readily restore the backup. This will just be a quick way to determine if the problem is w/ the router configuration (assuming you were able to navigate to the site in question when you 1st got your router.)

Please, post back here w/ answers to these questions along w/ any observations or questions you might have.

We'll continue to work w/ you until the problem is resloved.

Please, hold off on assigning ratings to any of the experts' contributions until you're all set and have no more questions for us. (Once you assign ratings, the problem will be automatically closed and we'll no longer be able to assist you.)

Thank you,
BJ @:)

SOURCE: I have a Compaq Presarion

If running Vista: Try the following
Open up Control Panel, and type in user account into the search box. You'll see the link for "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off". Click it. Uncheck the box, and reboot your computer. You should be done with administrator prompts! Now, Microsoft highly recommends that you do not do this. A little red X shield icon plants itself in your taskbar, telling you about the security risk. In Control Panel, go to the Security Center. On the left hand side, click the "Change the way Security Center alerts me" and choose "Don't notify me and don't display the icon (not recommended)"

Just by a wild chance the "block" isn't coming from your sisters colleges web site?

SOURCE: I need to install an antivirus on someone's computer, and a firewall is blocking installation, but I can't even FIND the firewall on the computer.

Not sure if its a firewall, I would suggest to try the avast home antivirus from www.avast.com its free, I've been using it myself for years.

Give it a try and see if it installs.

How to block torrent download in sonicwall tz190

BitTorrent is a torrent downloading client used to download
music, video and game files for free.

BitTorrent can really eat up bandwidth, which can be mighty
frustrating, especially if you're sharing a computer and an Internet connection
with someone who's using BitTorrent.

If he's not willing to stop using BitTorrent, there are a
few steps you can take to block this demanding program.

Switch your Internet service to an Internet service provider (ISP) that is
hostile to BitTorrent. RCN, for example, is known to block BitTorrent traffic.

Try blocking all ports from 6881 to 6999 on your system.

You must first add a port before you can block it. Click
"Control Panel" and then "Network and Internet
Connections."

Click "Firewall Settings," and select the
"Exceptions" tab.

Click the "Add Ports" button. Enter the port
number you want to block, and click "OK" to save your changes.

Navigate to the "General" tab in the "Windows
Firewall" section, and remove the check mark from the port you just
created.

That port is now blocked and cannot be used by BitTorrent.

Unfortunately, performing this procedure 118 times is
somewhat time consuming, but it is one of the few ways known to block
BitTorrent.

If someone is using BitTorrent on your computer, don't
allow him access to it.

If he's using BitTorrent on his own computer, you may have
to buy your own machine to avoid conflict.

If the Internet is slow on your computer because
he's downloading via BitTorrent on his own machine, consider using a public
Wi-Fi point such as a library or coffeehouse.

How do I unlock filotered content?

Please clarify if this is not correct.
I'm assuming you are referring to content from some website being blocked. If your at a business or publicly managed network than more then likely they are content filtering on their firewall. Same thing could be happening on a home network someone else has control on.
Some firewalls will block this bypass method You can bypass these, but I would get consent from the network owner.
Download the Vidalia Bundle here https://www.torproject.org/projects/vidalia.html.en -Install it -Press "Start Tor" Go into Internet Explorer > Tools (might have to press alt to see the menu) Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings -Check the Box for "Use a proxy server..." Enter 127.0.01 for the IP and port 8118 You should now be able to bypass most firewall content blocks

I have one computer working off this router but the others won't

This is quite a long reply and may appear very technical - however, have a read through and see what you can do Answer. The following assums that your wireless connection is working and other PCs are able to connect:
There could be quite a lot of reasons you are not getting a connection to the wireless - some common issues
  1. the wireless is switched off
  2. Firewall may be blocking
  3. Remove profile
  4. Check Device working in Device manager
  5. Something else on the PC blocking
so quite a few things to check - so lets start in order
  1. Wireless Switch:- Most laptops have a wireless switch - some use a physical switch, other use a combination of the FN key + one of the F keys to toggle on/off - make sure this is on
  2. Firewall:- The firewall my be blocking access - try to disable the firewall. Often programs like Norton, Mcafee etc, when the subscription runs out can cause issues and need to be uninstalled, to uninstal you may need to use the removal tool available on thier websites. One of the ways to test this, is to do a PING test. Press the "Windows key" {bottom left of the keyboard} and at the same time press the "R key", now in the search box that appears - type "CMD", a black box will now appear on your screen, in that box type the following "ping google.com" if you get 4 replies then you can access the internet and your firewall may well be blocking the access try disabling the firewall.
  3. Remove wireless profiles http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm
  4. Have a look at device manager Press the Windows key (bottom left of the keyboard} and at the same time press the R key, now in the search box that appears - type devmgmt.msc and see if you have any ? X or ! look under network adapters - click on the + and see if you have the adapter listed It will have a name something with wireless or 802.11 B/G/N included - check if it has any X or ! or ?
  5. safemode:- Try to boot the PC into "safe mode with networking". To do this switch the PC on and now as it starts keep tapping the F8 key untill a menu appears, from that menu choose "safe mode with networking". If you can now connect to the internet, then there is something blocking your access on the PC when it starts normally - post back a comment and if that's the case, We can try doing a "clean boot" and try to identify the startup or process that is causing the issue
A very useful tool to use for wireless issues is xirrus, http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php If you can copy the program onto the PC thats not working and install and run, this test if your adapter is working and also will display all the networks broadcasting in your area. Which will prove the hardware works.
  • If this solutions solves you problem, please do not forget to rate my solution.
  • If not, then please comment back so I can help some more

Can,t unstiall norton

Norton Internet Security 2004/2005 has an effective firewall. This is in addition to the Windows firewall. Firewalls monitors and restricts information that travels between your computer and a network or the Internet and provides a line of defense against someone who might try to access your computer from outside the Firewall without your permission. In this case the windows firewall was disabled and Norton Firewall was the main one. When some program from your computer tries to connect to the internet, Norton Internet Security gives a prompt, which has options to allow or block the access. Many times the recommended option is to block the access. So be careful to see what you are blocking internet access before clicking OK. Click the Norton Security icon at the bottom right corner in your system tray. On the pop up window, first check if you have not clicked ?Block Traffic? button. As this will block all internet access. If that is ok, maybe the program has been blocked access and has to be unblocked manually. But it was not easy to find where was the blocked list. But here is it location. Go to Norton Internet Security > System and Settings and this is what you see ... Then you see that the Personal firewall is turned on to protect from unauthorized access to spyware, adware and other unwanted software. Click ?Configure? button. Go to Programs and scroll down the list for Manual Program Control. There you will see the individual internet access settings for each individual program. And you see that Mozilla Firefox/Internet Explorer setting shows ?Block All?. From the drop down list select ?Permit All? and now open Firefox. It works! And he is back to using firefox as his default browser again. Now you can scroll through the entire list and individually set the programs to allow and block internet access. Now you may fix some programs not working with the internet which you might have blocked by mistake. You can also set some allowed programs to block. I hope this tip helps. Now figure out the Custom option yourself!

Software Firewalls and Linksys Routers

You can never have too much security, however there are some firewalls that will not work with hardware firewalls, that includes the all Linksys Routers . Keeping this in mind, some software firewall will continue working after the router is installed. If it does, it shouldn't need to remove it, because it's an extra layer of security. However if there are difficulties using the Internet with the Software firewall after installing the router, try disableing it to see if internet is accessable. If the internet works after disabling the software firewall, then remove the firewall.
