Question about NEC PlasmaSync PX-61XM2A 61 in. HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

HDMI Connection I have an NEC PX-61XM2A television. It has a DVI port in the back so I thought I could get a cable that is DVI to HDMI and connect it to my Dish network box. It is not working, I don't know if it's my cable box or the tv or the DVI/HDMI cable.

To narrow it down get the right cable and do your connection.if it does not work have the cable company take a look at your cable box.if that dont work then you can safetly say it is your tv.then it will be time to call in the repairman.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF DVI-HDTV CABLE CONNECTIONS AND WHAT TYPE OF PICTURE DO I GET

The DVI cable was the early HDMI cable . all later sets have the HDMI port . when you had it hooked to a DVI source did you select that port with the remote ? if it did not function the port may be damaged . as to picture it should give you a HD quality picture that your cable box is broadcasting .

Hi Genaro,

Sounds like an issue with the HDMI HDCP content protection. I do not think it will be possible to connect using a DVI to HDMI cable.

NEC PX-50XM4A 50" plasma tv - I get a picture but no sound. I have my cable box plugged in to the DVI port converted to HDMI going to my cable box but I cant get sound when I plug external speakers in to...

HDMI carries both video and audio.
Do you get video and audio on TV. Just to be sure.
Now are the external speakers powered ?
are you connecting the Speakers to Audio Out of the TV ?
By the way, I cannot see any RCA port that is output port on your NEC plasma. NEC 50XM4 User Manual Specifications The audio input is for audio from dvd for example.

Just trying to connect the HDMI using a cox cable box. Cannot find the connection on the tv.... help

This TV doesn't have an HDMI port. You can use a DVI to HDMI adapter or the component video. (I assume the Cox cable has component video out.) You will need to connect an audio cable as well. There are 2 DVI-HDCP ports.

I wish that I could be of more help.

Where is the HDMI cable connection port?

This model has a DVI connection. You will need to install a cable as shown. This will only carry the video. For the audio, you will need to use a pair of RCA cables, the same as those which are used for all other connections. Theses connections are located on the back of the TV, along with the cable RF jack. The DVI connection is normally the last input (ex: input 6 or 7).

Is there someway to hook up our Hitachi 42HDS69 to our laptop

Your computer should have a DVI port to make this possible since your TV dont have a VGA port. If your computer have a DVI port then an HDMI/DVI cable is all you need. This allows you to connect you computer or laptop to you tv through the HDMI connection on your tv.

I have a phillips 26pf5520d/10 model number, ive connected a dvi cable and hdmi cable to my playstation 3 and tv, but i have no sound, please any ideas. many thanks steph

I'm assuming you mean you have HDMI coming out of the PS3 and going in to the DVI port on the back of the TV, via an adaptor or cable with a different connector on either end.
I have the same TV, you need a separate audio connection between ps3 and tv. HDMI can transmit audio and video but DVI (which is what the TV has) can only do video.
You'll need a 2 x phono female to 3.5mm jack male adaptor cable. like this one to make the audio connection.
you could also try this adaptor but its a bit big and therefore may not fit into the space available.
after getting an adaptor do this (keep your original setup the same)
1. Put the ps3 AV cable into the back of the ps3. 2. then connect the red and white plugs (ignore the yellow) from the ps3 AV into the adaptor (discussed above). 3. then connect the 3.5mm jack (from the adaptor) into the small audio port right next to the DVI port on the back of the TV (I believe its called 'DVI Audio')
I've not tried this and I don't have a ps3, yet, but in theory it should work, as long as the ps3 will send audio to the av output at the same time as to the hdmi output.
if it works, then post a response, i'd like to know for the future.
good luck
