SOURCE: my 1979 111 john deere lawn tractor deck blades shut off

If it has a clutch, that would be the problem. An electric clutch will kick on and off when it is hot if it is bad.

SOURCE: Need wiring schematic diagram for JD L130 lawn

You should price a new wiring harness, around $80 so there is not much reason to spend a lot of time trying to find shorts or open wiring.

SOURCE: problem with John Deere L120 tractor

Park brake switch is the most likely culprit, any other would cause the tractor to not turn over in the crank position.

SOURCE: Why isn't the center blade on a john deere LX178

Of course with everything off, reach under the deck and turn the center blade by hand. If:
1. the blade turns by itself and nothing else moves, you need to tighten the retaining bolt more.
2. the blade, retaining bolt and drive shaft turn, check to see if the pulley above it is turning.
a. If the pulley turns freely check that the drive belt is going around it to power the blade.
b. If the blade turns with the drive shaft and the pulley doesn't, check that the pulley is still properly connected to the blade shaft. Some have a key in them that can split, others just have a bolt on top holding them tightly on the shaft.

Rider loses power after mowing for 30 - 45 minutes. Gets to a point, it won't climb a small incline. Engine sounds good & the deck runs fine. Just won't go.

Hi, the hydrostatic drive is most likely over heating. Remove the battery and battery carrier, from here you can clean all grass and debris from the hydro cooling fins and fan. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

Mowerdeck will not engage...

I own a similiar John Deere model (L130, 23HP with a 48" deck). I would check the electric clutch (called a PTO). To do this check the wires to this clutch and look for something disconnected. These wires (to this PTO clutch) should have twelve volts with the key on and the blades engaged.

My John Deere L130 riding mower quits after it has been running

A John Deere repair guy showed me how to fix this. It is very simple. Remove the gas cap. Pop out the liner in the gas cap with a thin pocket knife. Clean out the cap. From the top of the cap, where it comes to a peak, take a very fine point (even a small knife blade will do) and make sure the little hole in the top (that you didn't know was there) is clear. The engine is starving because the gas tank is not properly vented. I suffered with this problem for two years until he came to sharpen my blades and I asked him about this. A two minute, free fix did it and I have never had problems again.

I am servicing my John Deere STX38 and notice that when I push the mower forward there is a slight sticking sensation from the rear wheels on each rotation. The mower deck is removed and it does not happen...

There is a hydrostatic relief valve on the lower, left hand side of the transaxle housing by the output shaft to wheel/tire. Feels like a little sharp tang of metal if you feel for it just under the mower's backplate. Rotate it 90 degrees, this will disengage the hydrostatic drive unit and essentially let it freewheel. If it still feels sticky or sluggish when disengaged, then it's time to definitely service that axle. If you have NEVER serviced it, then drain and refill with 10w-30 motor oil. Drive it about for a good 10 hours total running time, drain and refill again. This should purge it out and get some good, fresh slick stuff in. Of course, rotate the relief valve back into it's home position to re-engage before driving the tractor!
