Question about AMD K6-2 , 333 MHz Processor
How do I correctly install an AMD-6 CPU into the socket (7) on an (old) Compaq Presario 1260 laptop? There are two little tags on either side of the socket that say "open" and "lock" and the small sliding device locks into place fine without the CPU in... but when I put the CPU pins into the socket and push in the "lock" direction, it won't go all the way and is not very firmly housed (I have another laptop of the exact same model and the CPU seems locked solid). I think I must be doing something wrong but not sure what... Can anyone tell me what I need to do to install it correctly? Thanks a lot.
Either your setting is not correct or your new AMD CPU is not a compatible type. One thing very easy to verify is if it is compatible, it will seat very firmly. You may need to check the model and serial number to be sure you get the correct CPU for your old board.

Thanks for the reply. The AMD CPU is exactly the same model as the original one. It fits into the socket no problem but when I push it in the direction to make it lock into position, it won't go all the way and it seems I'm not doing something right because I couldn't possibly push it any harder without damaging it.
