Question about Panasonic PT-51G44 51" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Convergence issue i actually have a PT51G63 but cannot find it under the models... i bought it used about a week ago and it worked fine but had isues with really dark objects ... this morning i turned it on and the red is about an inch to the left of everything else... there is a mini-fridge to the left of the tv and i was wondering if that may have messed it up... i was also up for a late night of extreme awesome gaming on it last night... the thing is under convergence i try to change it but i no longer have the original remote ... i can get into the convergence menu using the buttons on the tv but the navi buttons act like normal volume/channel buttons while its open ( so instead of changing the convergence the volume just goes up or down or the channel changes ) what do i do !! ( besides buy a new tv please )

I have the same issue - although the solution that was posted got me excited - it did not reset the convergence for whatever reason…Any other options?

You can go back to factory settings by pressing and holding the ACTION and POWER buttons on the TV while it is on. A CHK screen will appear and when it does release the buttons and then power the set off then on again. This had reset all settings back to factory conditions. You will have to reprogram any channels into memory after this.

My Goodman AC is model WMC24-1. Two years ago it quit responding to the remote control. We bought a replacement B1100108. That worked...for awhile.

Make sure the sun is not directly on the unit and nothing is blocking the unit. for once in awhile if the sun hits it just right when you try to use the remote it will not work.that seems to me what is wrong for spring time the sun is real low

Thats a convergence failure issue. The Sony Type 1 convergence repair kit available from www.tvrepairworld.com is the kit your model uses. The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions.

My mitsubishi 60" screen turns on but has red-like waves. Is sound in background, but it shuts down, too. Anybody know what it might be. I just bought and moved it to my house two weeks ago. Worked fine...

This is a very common failure on Projection sets. Its called a convergence problem.

You may have one or more of the following symptoms.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • No Audio / No Video - Makes Chirping Sounds

3 blinks means the convergence circuits are shutting the set down. Usually the convergence ICs will take care of the problem, but I would recommend getting the service manual from the following link, as they will provide you free support to help you diagnose why it wont start as usually the convergence ICs wont prevent a set from powering up, unless another component in the convergence circuit has failed.

Convergence

You need to go to http://www.partstore.com, enter your model number, look up under that model number STK #(@-560. Order Two of the part number 874901908. These also need heat sink grease in the back of these ICs when they are replaced. If you know how to solder, then good luck, and please be carefull!.. Please do not forget to rate this thread.
