The printer is several years old but always performed atho slowly at times. It worked yesterday. Today, it is spitting out sheet after sheet with one line of gibberish. I disconnected and reconnected more than once. The cartridges are new. I tried to follow the troubleshoot instructionsin the brochure but of course, there was no XP at that time. HP will not help or support this old model. There is no notification on the screen when I begin the process but the yellow light begins flashing immediately. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have a problem...I am trying to purchase a 670c model but I can't find one available.Any suggestions?

Here's a few steps to make sure that it's working. 1. If the printer is indeed working, turn it off, disconnect from the printer, and then turn it on. Once on, hold the "resume" button for a few seconds and it should print a self test page. 2. Clean the printer by turning the printer on. Press and hold the POWER button. Press the RESUME button seven times. Release the POWER button. 3. Then there's running a diagnostic-test, of which, there are 2 ways: Regular: Turn the printer on. Press and hold the POWER button. Press the RESUME button five times. Release the POWER button. Extended: Turn the printer on. Press and hold the POWER button. Press the RESUME button twelve times. Release the POWER button. I've been reading up a lot about this problem and it seems that maybe 1 out of 10 people can actually get this to work on XP. There are no additional drivers available for this printer other than the ones that come available with hte installation CD. It's HP's way of telling you to buy another one of there printers...

For whatever reason-who can tell?-this morning I pressed the on button and lo and behold, the printer grabbed 4 sheets but printed out an email I asked for yersterday. It also printed out a sheet I asked for in the scanner-TWICE- and then on it's own, it printed out the XP Printer Test Page??
I am going to "clean" and try again the normal way and by the way, the amber light is NOT ON???
Thanks for your info. If still unable to woprk properly, I will replace the cable and if this does not work, I will buy a new printer.
Second Comment: I "cleaned" the printer by pressing the Resume Button 7 times. I then sent an email to myself and was able to print it out. I then placeda picture into the scanner and successfully printed it without the amber light flashing and the printer working as before. I don't know why it needed the rest all night to accomplish this, but your assistance certainly helped and I thank you.
