Okay, so I have had my PS2 since they came out and I have just started having problems with it. The problem is that it will only read a couple of my games in it; this led me to believe that the other game discs were too scratched or that something was wrong with the game disc condition. I went out and purchased a couple of the games brand new, thinking that that would fix the problem and I would be able to play the game again. That didn't work, it still does the same thing. It loads the game from the browser just fine and comes up with the initial screen that says Playstation 2 on it, but then whenever it is loading the game itself, it freezes up. I have taken it apart and adjusted/cleaned the insides and I adjusted the laser eye with that little white wheel inside (this is what Best Buy told me to do) and it worked for about a day and then stopped again. If anyone has any suggestions (besides buying a new one b/c I don't want to do that), please let me know.

Yes the problem is the laser. It's on its way out (and is almost completely out). You can find a new laser for the 77001 console at the following page. They also sell the completely laser assembly which includes all moving parts in there:
Okay, If your using the original PS2 console, then your problem is the age of the console. It actually can't play some of the games that were released after the PS2 slim was released. If this is the case, there's not much you can do but try to find a PS2 slim or get a PS3 with the ability to play PS2 games :(
If it is an older playstation 2 the laser may be getting weak. Ther are many videos on ow to adjust the laser. You need to turn the potometer on the laser but make sure you read with a multimeter to not burnt it out.
After countless hours of tying to figure this out I went to the basics. This ps2 slim has 3 sensors and after all sensors are the key to making the machine work properly. After testing everything known to man I decided to go around the sensors by taping them all down. Low and behold when I cranked the ps2 slim up the disc now reads and plays perfectly.
