try turning off the auto shut off feature in you set up screens . you can find them through the menu button on your remote. scroll through till you find it and turn it off.

I recommend connecting the DVD to either input. Turn on the DVD. Then run the auto programming function of the TV. It will find and program the channel for the DVD. Then use the channel up or down on the remote you are currently using and you should find a working DVD.

Sounds like the capicator on the high voltage is swelled,removing the back cover,make sure to unplug the unit first,there is a u shaped heat sink about middle ways of the board,inside that heat sink is a cap,it will be swelled on top of it,its a 2200 35v cap.
