I've already taken apart the player to see what was happening and i know it's not spinning the disc, the lens does try to read the disc though. I've been trying to find the motor assembly for a while now and can't seem to find anywhere that sells it.
Re: I need a motor assembly for a philips dvd player
I used to repair dvd and cd players, the motor wont spin until the laser focuses on the disc, so you could have a faulty laser.
also the mechanism sometimes comes as a complete assembly.
which will cost more than anew unit

seems to be an issue with this model, i cant play any discs, the sound is only coming from the left rear speaker and the sub, the system shuts off every half hour due to overheating...needless to say the system sucks...didnt last long...im very tech savvy and still couldnt figure out why all of this was happening.
im looking at samsung now...everything else i have is samsung and love it.
the laser is probably no good or the tiny motor that spins the disc is no good.there is a clamper assembly that goes in the hole in the disc.turn it and see if it spins freely.there is a bronze bushing on the top of the motor driving it ,and a small drop of light oil on the bearing will make it work again if it is gummed up..if the motor does not get the disc speed from 250 to 600rpm,fast,the laser does generate the proper info and the computer says error.yes the motors can be replaced, but the cost is as much as a new one
HI, this will happen when the lens assembly is damaged and it will need to be replaced. you can confirm by using a lens cleaner. If the system starts to read as normal after cleaning the lens with a cleaning disc, the problem will be solved but, if the problem still exist after the cleansing, you will need to replace the lens assembly. it has failed.
Most of the time, the load motor will fail and this is a integratepart of the Assembly in most cases.
Main drive motor that spins the dvd replace with generic, when the motor gets old contacts get
corroded or woren out, ive taken apart and cleand sucessfully for a nother year on the motor.
or purchas another, the dvd must spin fast at the start, ive owend 3 of these pups for about 7
years. its the drve moter the lasers are good and strong.
Does it make this noise only while playing a disc? or is it when it opens and closes.
If it happens while playing a disc, it could be the spindle motor or something rubbing on the disc while it is spinning. Since nothing is supposed to be rubbing on the disc, it would need to be taken apart and looked at while it is spinning to see what that is.
