Question about Maytag MSD2656G Side by Side Refrigerator
My Maytag mod. MSD2656dew has stopped cooling everywhere but started with the refrigerator side, then the upper freezer. Now the lower freezer is at 35degs. The fan inside sounds like it's working but I don't feel much air flow. The fan by the compressor is running, but the compressor only runs for 5 or ten sec. at the most, then clicks off. It does this several times every couple of minutes after it's first turned on, then stops. The compressor is warm, but not hot.I dont see any ice in the vents either, but have not removed any internal covers. It does seem to be making ice, but very slowly. This problem started after the refrig. door was left partially open several times due to a shelf in the door hanging up.
I have a Maytag msd2422gr side-by-side that has gradually stopped cooling 2 or 3 times. The solution is cheap and easy: Your unit isn't cooling because the space in which the fan is housed is so full of ice you are getting no cold air circulation. The compressor and everything else is functioning, but the cold that is being produced is blocked by ice. All you need to do is to unplug the unit and entirely unload the freezer. Locate a panel with vent slots on the back wall of the freezer compartment that covers the fan. It is held on by about 4 screws. Lift out the panel and behold the glacier of ice covering the coils. You might want to use a hair dryer or space heater to hasten the melting, but I would warn against trying to chip or break it out because you will probably ruin or puncture an important part. Once all the ice is gone, reassemble and plug it back in. As I recall, it takes a few minutes for the compressor to get going again, but be patient because, if there was ice, that was your problem and if it is now gone, that is your solution. It can't help but work. And from now on, you know to be careful not over-load and block those vent slots in the back of your freezer. The problem I am having is very similar...the Freezer compartment turns off or stops freezing thendays later it will start up again. the Panel lights on the ice depenser are stuck on one selection and cold stops. then it starts up again. I checked the plug, I checked the fuse and I checked the temperature gage is ON. Problem still persists
