You haven't specified the version no of the router. If you would turn the router upside down, you can see the model no and the version no right next to it. Although, the configuration of all the versions would be the same, you still need to make sure it has the latest firmware if its a older version. Here is what we need to do... 1. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router 2. Connect the desktop to the port 4 of the router 3. With the router turned on, push the reset button on the router and hold it for 20-30 seconds. 4. Power Cycle: Unplug the power from the router and the modem. Wait 30 seconds and turn on the modem first. Wait 1-2 minutes till the ligts on the modem are steady. Turn on the router. 5. Wait till the lights on the router are all turned on (takes around 1 minute) 6. On the desktop, open your web browser 7. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1 8. It must prompt you for a username and password 9. Skip the username and type the password - 'admin' 10. That must bring up the setup page of the router 11. There is tab on the top right corner - 'Status'. Click on that 12. In the status tab, you must see the internet ip address - 192.168.1.64, which is the ip address provided by the modem 13. Go back to the setup tab 14. In the setup tab, you would see the local ip address = 192.168.1.1 15. Change it to 192.168.2.1 16. Click on Save Settings (scroll down to the lower end of the screen to see this option) 17. Wait for 30 seconds and close the web browser 18. Power Cycle again (refer step 4) 19. Now internet must work on the desktop 20. By default, the network name (SSID) of the linksys router is - 'linksys' 21. You can go to the laptop(i assume it has windows xp), and try to connect to this network by - right click on the wireless icon in the system tray (on the right bottom corner of the screen) and click on 'view available wireless networks' 22. You must see 'linksys' as one of the available wireless networks 23. Try connecting to it and you laptop must work Those steps are generalised and you might get stuck in exceptional cases. If this does not work, please initiate a chat session with any of the experts, if this does not work, because this may require some advanced troubleshooting which would not be possible using those short messages. Good Luck

Use the desktop for this (the hard wired one) or hard wire the laptop to the router and follow the following steps:

    1. Open the web browser
    2. In the Address bar type 192.168.1.1
    3. When prompted for username and password, type password - 'admin' (default password) and skip the username
    4. Once you are able to see the Setup page, click on the wireles tab
    5. Change the SSID to 'gunja' (for instance). Please make sure there are no spaces in the SSID and make it as short as possible (for better peformance)
    6. You may also change the channel to 11 (recommended)
    7. Save the settings by clicking on 'Save Settings'
    8. Once you are back on the same page, click on Wireless Security tab (sub-tab under the wireless tab)
    9. Change the security mode to WEP
    10. You may type anything in the passphrase box and click on generate. That will generate 4 keys for you
    11. You may also type a customized key in the Key 1 box (hexadecimal - between 0 to 9 and A to F)
    12. Please note that the only key we need in case of WEP is the key 1 (this is the only key that will be transmitted by default)
    13. Save the settings
    14. Now when you would view the available networks on the laptop, you must be able to see the new SSID. Try connecting to it with the WEP key 1
    15. And bang it goes - up and running

    Good Luck

Ps3 key change timeout using westell 6100 modem on verizon

there might be a problem with the Linksys router, the Westell 6100 should be 1st set to bridge mode in order for your router to be connected to it. or there could also be a proble on the Verizon server.

Switching DSL Modems

Your dsl line stays the same. you're only changing your dsl equipment.

if you are not able to go online using the 327w, you might need to have it configured depending on the type of connection that you have. if you are using PPPoE (which means you enter a username and password on the modem to connect to verizon) you need your 327w configured for pppoe. but if you are using DHCP connection, any modem or routers should be plug and play.

Most verizon customers from the west coast uses DHCP while those on the east coast uses PPPoE.

You can call tech support to make sure which type of connection you are using.

Setup Wireless Router to Westell 6100 modem

Your Wireless router should have come with a CD. Insert the CD into your computer and follow it step by step. If it did not come with it here is a basic wiring setup.
From wall jack to Westell modem, From modem to uplink port on Max G router.
Reboot Westell modem. T
Everything should auto-configure unless you need a username and password for your DLS. If so you will need to program this into your router.

Get no connection useing 6100 modem connected to wireless B router

Hi starman re westell 6100.

Hi i hope you have find solution with your issue ifnot let me walk you through on how to get it up and working.

First , you need to connect your modem directly to your computer. We need to access its Graphic Unit Interface by opening your browser and type onyour address bar its default gateway.

The def. gateway can be 192.168.1.1 or depending what ISP youre connected to . For ATT broadband its 192.168.1.254 / verizon broadband is 192.168.1.1..  { onyour address bar : type in 192.168.1.1 and hit Enter.

to check def gateway : you can go to start > run > cmd then enter > on DOS command type in ipconfig /all  then HIT enter > itl provide you your network list > your default gateway is your westell modem or if your linksys is connected than it should be you linksys.

Itl route you to your westell page. Try to go to  Broadband and choose connection or configure connection.button. Look for configure and by default you will see its in PPPoE> change it to bridged ethernet and save.

By enabling bridge to your modem w/c is westell youl have a chance to configure you linksys to PPPoE.

Connect you westell to your linksys and on your computer try to check your default gateway as seen above. By default linksys can be access by typing in 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1. Itl prompt you for UN and PW: by default your Username is : Blank and Password should be admin. { blank = dont type anything}

On your linksys SETUP page > by default it is set to DHCP or obtain IP address automatically. Pls change it to PPPoE and type in your UN and PW : [email protected] { your ISP name}. and hit save settings or save.

Restart your linksys and try to browse to check fore connection.

========================
For all types of modem such as westell : you need to set it to bridge mode first foryou wireless router to work ie linksys. Set linksys to PPPoE .. that should work .

For more detailed steps or questions re: this issue pls dont hestiate contact me. Best wishes.

Pls enable you Wireless Encryption for your home network security.

Ciao .
