HP1060 will not print test page or any job. Message says "printer has the front cover open or the cartridge is missing". The front cover is closed and the cartridge is securely in place. I have tried 1. a new cartridge, 2. opening and closing the cover several times, 3. taking the cartridge out and replacing it several times, 4. turning the printer off and on again, 5. unplugging the printer, 5. checking network, default, and offline settings, 6. unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable, 7. restarting the computer with the printer on and off. This is the first time I have gottent this message.
Have you looked at the front cover to see if the tab there is broken? (this will tell the PC that the front cover is still open) So you'll want to go around the edges of the printer cover to see if there's anything broken and a small hole in which the tab would insert into. If it is the case, and you don't want to spend money on fixing it, then do what I do...Rig up a paper clip and electrical tape to work as the tab, making the printer think that the front cover is always closed.

Solution:
? Press continue button to clear message and continue processing job.
? Remove the toner cartridge. Gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side and front to back several times to redistribute the toner, and reinsert it. Repeat this procedure multiple times. If the print remains faded, replace the toner cartridge.

Same problem, won't print, front cover open/ cartridge missing.I've tried all to no avail.
I think the problem stated when I got a new Windows 8.1 computer. Printer has always worked great, but I'm not 100% positive 8.1 started the problem. They say to download Drivers update but even though the download is free, of course, they fail to mention you have to pay to use it.
the printer incates t'op cover open' even when it's closed.
