I have Whirlpool GEW9878LW Electric Dryer. My Dryer will only work if I hold start button, when I release start button the dryer stops. I made sure the timer is on, dryer door is closed. Usually I set the time for the dryer and push start and it starts working. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Her's is a Whirlpool Gold Model dryer (I believe she gave me the washer model number though GSX9885J) - but it's the mate to dryer to the set. She states that the when she holds the button in it runs but as soon as she lets go it stops. She seems to think it is just the button/switch/timer mechanism only. I believe you; that it's the "even heat board" and I saw the post back with the part number. I am going to ask her to verify the model number - but I guess my question is; is there any way that this can be only a timer/switch issue - like the button won't click in? I need to see it in person too - which I will. But, I'd hate to steer her in a wrong direction (us women need to keep impressing our husbands with our fix-it sensibilities!). Carolyn

I too have the same problem. The start button is pushed but won't stay on. Door is closed, lint tray is clean, drum will turn but won't stay running. Joni :o)
