My Dryer will only work if I hold start button, when I release start button the dryer stops.
I have Whirlpool GEW9878LW Electric Dryer. My Dryer will only work if I hold start button, when I release start button the dryer stops. I made sure the timer is on, dryer door is closed. Usually I set the time for the dryer and push start and it starts working.
Thanks in advance.

Anra, this is a classic symptom of a failed even heat board. I've seen a lot of these failures out there. Easy to change out. Check out this link. Catriver..post back http://www.repairclinic.com/0080.asp

What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.
probably has a broken belt, there is what is called a "Broken Belt" switch by the motor inside on the idler pulley tensioner for the belt,if the belt breaks this switch opens so the dryer wont run without the drum turning so as not to overheat and burn your clothes, replace the drum belt and you should be good to go
