Yamaha DVX-S120 On Screen Menu - Phillips brand

Hi Does anybody have any suggestions as to why my DVX-S120 should suddenly change its on screen menu and splash screen from Yamaha to a Phillips on screen menu and splash screen which are totally different to Yamaha's. And it will now only play DVD's in B&W Thank You Dieseldog

Fix from Yamaha for this problem :-

    DVR-S120 Version Matrix Setting
    1. Remove disc , turn off the system.
    2. Push ?STANDBY/ON? key with ?A/B/C/D/E? key pushed simultaneously.
    3. Within 4 secs push the ?MEMORY? key.-----It displays [ver. Disp].
    4. Push ?Shift? key + ?2? key simultaneously on the remote controller.
the FL-Display shows ?Wait 20 sec? and video output goes off after awhile.
    5. DVD module will be rebooted and video output comes again.
the FL-Display shows [OK S120G(2)] etc.
    6. Open the tray and push the ?MENU? key on the remote controller.
Confirm the part of the screen shown below.
*Confirm the ?DVD FW version? and ?version matrix?.
*Especially check all [8] digit of ?version matrix?(Region) , for version matrix differs depending on each destination.
    REGION 22200606
    DESTINATION UK--Zone-2

The same happened to me! DVD's play fine but on screen menu just changed and Video Output option is gone! Also de Philips logo on screen which I suspect is placed there by my TV (which is a Philips one) and as it does no longer receive the background screen from the DVX it just puts its own. Is your TV Philips like mine?

one down to ntsf setting then hit ok (enter)
this way is a blind walk threw but will get it done if have patiences

the other way you mentioned is that your missing preferneces

the other is [preferences page]- [default]- [reset] Press enter (ok) to reset the paremeters to initial factory settings
this can be found on page 38 en of the manual i will also post the link so you know what i am looking at hope these too things work i know you cant see your screen but a blind walk threw is better than not having the preferences not being there for you

Video/dvd/cd play but no sound from speakers

Try changing "audio" setup in your TV to "variable" instead of "fixed", if you have that option on your TV set up... I have a Sony HD widescreen, and that worked for me...

Channel keeps changing

It sounds like a stuck button or switch. What happens when you hit the channel DOWN, does it still keep scrolling down?
Is this with or without the remote?
Have you tried it with the remote and or the TV?

Let me know whether you are changing the channels with the remote or the buttons on the tv and I can try to give you a couple more suggestions.

DVR-S120 doesn't play any cd's

I have come across one DVR-S120 that has a shorted spindle motor. This is the motor that spins the disk. Therefor the unit will not play a cd or dvd. Yamaha sale's the complete dvd Assy. for $300 witch is absurd.

Sound Interference coming throught the Amplifier

On many occasions high pitch interference is a result of bad wiring and grounding problems. Check to make sure that you followed the manufacturer's instructions concerning grounding and installation of the amp, and if possible try and install it at another location in your house, using other electricity sockets. If the problem is solved by relocating the system, you might be looking at wiring problems (audio equipment can be very sensitive to that), if changing anything in the installation process solved the problem then the problem was probably due to bad grounding and "loose" electricity. Try making the installation as "clean" as possible, avoid tangled wires and stressing a single socket with too many electric appliances. If the problem persists, and you are still under warranty, I suggest contacting your local Yamaha dealer. If you're out of warranty I suggest locating a professional repair person.
