Re: Roadmate 700 lost its voice...
Spraying the knob with contact cleaner will help but, if you get a thin cloth after you spray it and use it like floss underneath the knob.. your results may increase. Other then the volume knob, re-loading your software may help or making sure your speaker is plugged in also I've heard of objects getting stuck on the magnet of the speaker. I guess just look around on the internet for the contact cleaner, I'm sure it couldn't be too hard to find.

Go to an electronics store and buy a can of spray contact cleaner. Remove the 3 top screws on the back cover. You will see the volume control on the lower left. spray the control with a few squirts of the cleaner, and rotate it several time to distribute the cleaner in the control. Spray again if necessary. This should solve your problem.
Replacing the LCD would be ideal, yet I know we don't have spare's lying around. Open her up (CAREFULLY), flip up the tabs up and remove the cable from the LCD and make sure the contacts are clean, contact cleaner would be best, if not use rubbing alcohol. Re-insert the cable ALL the way and cross your fingers. There's two seperate layers making up the display, visuals and touch sensors. Lemme know.
i use to own a 700, i advise you to get the new magellan mastreo 4000 or higher,i did my research and the magellan700 roadmate is no longer being serviced.that is what the magellan website has had showed and someone on here also has said it and they start to have alot of problems.i own now a mastreo 4000 so far so good no problems.
I'm guessing the touch screen is working fine regardless of the sound? What you'll need is contact cleaner and a thin cleaning rag. Disassemble the unit, being very careful when you first open it up to UNPLUG the RF cable that could break off if pulled too hard. So, once you get the 4 screws off, open the unit just a little bit.. reach in and unplug the RF cable. It will help your percentages of success if you were grounded somehow in this process. Take the HDD off the back of the mainboard (big board). Isolated from the rest of the unit, spray the contact cleaner directly into the volume knob.. then while still wet, use the cloth like floss and clean underneath the dial, all the way around the unit. Make sure you clean it thoroughly, so you don't have to assemble and reassemble it incase of failure. Put it all back together.. making sure ALL the cables are back in their original place.. and that should fixya.
