I would try to change the wood itself for something more durable such as tzalam wood. Tzalam is used for <a rel='nofollow' href="http://www.resten.net">high end outdoor furniture</a>.

the main thing about upholstery is to hide the seams !! so t remove it you will need to find out how they hid the seams , sometimes theres tack strips sometime theres tacks , sometimes its just glue , what ever kind u got , you will need to find edge of seam and rediscover what type of method they used to cover seams with , then its just a matter of undoing the fastener and taking cloth off of wood , ohh and a few hints , allways replace padding too and don't be tempted to use more than what was there , theres a reason they used that amount 1st time and you wont be happy if u try to use more when u put it back together

take some elmers wood glue and put on a piece of paper and slide paper through getting the wood covered than get 2 long clamps and tighten down for a week

By cushions if you mean the seat then all it needs is a few wood screws to fasten to the base. if there is no hole for screws in the base frame then you could fix these with angle brackets.

You can fill the hole with a good wood filler, let it dry and then rerun the screw. Be sure you use good filler like elmers max and fill the hole completely.

The best dining room table shape for a room with limited space is a round table. You should look into finding one with an extension leaf if you have enough space to open it. Try looking for a table where you can fit more people around it by purchasing one with a pedestal base. This leaves more room for your guests legs without the legs of the table getting in the way.

I recommend looking at the Ikea website. They have a few to choose from at a good price. They are not too difficult to assemble either.
