No sound at all, but power on. Should I replace the phone jack?

Hi Hermann ,
This is a typical issue with Logitech speakers . You need to bring them back to the the dealer and get an exchange set for free replacement onder warranty . If the warranty has expired , you will need to solve the problem by testing the cables or the printcircuit inside the sub , BUT first connect your head phones or another speakers set to the correct output of your computer's soundcard to verify if the issue actually commes from the speakers . If the test is negative , the issue is to be found in the soundcard and you will need to replace it .
Best regards .

I have a asus k50ij laptop.... the power plug... which the adapter plugs into was giving me problems. so i ordered a new plug for the computer...now my computer will not turn on when i test the new plug...

The problem may be the power jack in the computer. Replacement requires removing the main board from the computer to remove the broken or worn power jack and solder in a replacement. A competent technician should be able to do this for considerably less money than buying a whole new main board, so don't get taken. The labor charge will be slightly higher than for replacing the main board, but the parts cost should be no more than $10 U. S. (that's with a considerable mark-up; suppliers charge $1 - $5). Sometimes all that is needed is fixing a cracked solder connection to the power jack; if that is the case, it's a nice idea to apply some hot melt glue or other non-corroding non-conductive removable adhesive to the jack to keep it secured to the main board.

SAMSUNG NP R430 POWER JACK

There is something seriously wrong with the power jack for it to get very hot. I doubt replacing the power jack will fix this problem. The laptop needs to be repaired by a specialist.

Xps 17 battery charger

I think either you have the wrong DC Power Jack installed (where the power cord plugs into the computer) or the wrong AC Adapter & Power Cord.

Hopefully you have an AC Adapter Power Cord that was made for your computer and not one of those one size fits all that some stores sell with the interchangeable tip at the end that plugs into the computer.

I previously had a problem with my Netbook power jack on the side of the computer, but it seems to be fixed now. When I plug the adapter into the computer, the orange light comes on showing that it's...

I guess it depends on why your power jack was dameged at first.
If the old power jack was replaced after any electric accidents, this current problem can be caused by your damaged motherboard.
(After shock, the motherboard can still perform ok for a while. I've seen it.)

Or sometimes, rarely the battery can cause it. I don't know why but, that's what I've heard from laptop manufactuers.
To find out, please, take out the battery and plug in AC power adapter and try it again.

I hope it helps you.

My gateway laptop wont charge at all i even bought a new battery and charger for it but it still wont charge or power on at all. if anybody knows wat is wrong please let me know.

This can be caused by either your motherboard or a broken power jack. Most common is the broken power jack. These can be replaced some will be separate from the motherboard and plug into it while others are soldiered to the motherboard and will require adept soldering skills so as to not over heat the circuits near the power jack. Most parts will be available on Ebay or online laptop parts stores including the power jack and if needed the motherboard.

If I need to repair or replace my gateway mx6448 motherboard, which is most cost-efficient: to repair or replace? How would I know the difference? I am not an expert, but can I do this repair or...

Depends on what is wrong. Is it the DC Power Jack? The jack you plug the AC adapter (Charger) into?
Average cost is around $100 for a DC Power Jack replacement. (It's labor intensive, but the jack itself usually runs around $8 to $14 )

Most computer 'repair' shops do not have the skills required to perform this procedure.
The easy way is to just replace the motherboard. (Also more Ka-ching in the pocket)

Just a typical DC Power Jack replacement,

Disassembling a Gateway MX 6000 series laptop,

Some designs of the motherboard, have the DC Power Jack mounted in an area on the motherboard, that DC Power Jack failure is a reoccurring failure.
The motherboard cracks in the area the DC Power Jack is mounted. (Breaking the circuit traces)
In this instance it's better to replace the motherboard. Of course it's going to fail later on.

Your question: "Can you replace the motherboard?"
I have confidence in you, I believe you can.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist, but does require patience.

1) Remove ALL Power to the laptop. AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) It would behoove you to buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap. (Electro Static Discharge)
Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
I connect to the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case.
(Average cost is around $3 to $8. Look online for reference. Visit computer repair shops, and stores like Radio Shack for purchase)

Your body carries Static electricity. Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer. Especially a Processor.
With wearing an ESD wrist strap, and connecting to a good ground source, your laptop is safe.

3) There may be as many as 60+ screws. There may be 12, or more different types of screws. DO NOT mix them up! Use a multi-compartment container, and label the compartments for the area the screws came out of.
You can use a clean egg container, (Or two) in a pinch. label each egg holder.

4) You may want to take photos, and make notes as you disassemble. Makes a real handy guide for reassembling. Also nice to have if you get interrupted in the middle.

Obtaining a motherboard:
You might check Ebay. Sounds like advertising, but it isn't. Just one of my sources.
Also check Laptops for Parts on Ebay.
Some sell a laptop that has a broken LCD screen as the only fault.

How do i get my hp pavilion zv5000 to run on ac power only. it will only run on the battery.

Zv5000 Laptops are plagued with problems related to the jack on the back of the computer. After prolonged use the jack tends to make the solder joint loose. Jacks can also go bad. The solution would be to check if the power comes on momentarily when wiggling the plug in the jack, if the power comes on intermittently then chances are you have a loose solder joint and may need repaired by a qualified tech. Fortunately, for the technically savvy this may be done carefully provided the proper static sensitive precautions are taken, due to the fact the computer must be totally dismantled to get to the jack and properly inspect the solder connections and repair or replace the jack. Silver heat sink compound must also replace the silicone on the processor ( one dab and compress, do not spread compound!) The jack need should it be replaced can be found on Ebay

Power Jack

Most, if not all computer manufacturers do not include these instructions, & for good reason too. You should not attempt to replace a DC Jack if you are not very technologically savvy.

Repairing the actual DC Jack itself requires you to strip the notebook down to the motherboard. From that point you will need to de-solder the old DC jack (very carefully) and then solder a new DC jack to the motherboard. After those steps are complete, you need to test the power using a voltmeter. If the voltage matches up to that of the computers you can continue. After you have finished all of that the only thing left is to put the notebook back together.

More detailed instructions as well as photos can be found by doing a Google search. Try entering the make and model of your specific notebook.. Who knows, you may get lucky and find a link with how-to photos.
