Packard Bell no longer switiching on or charging

I have a Packard Bell Easynote R0422 and it is no longer switiching or charging. I was using it and it starting making some noise. I pulled the top of the laptop down for me to see smoke coming out of the port where the AC charger goes. I pulled it out and the laptop switched itself off. I thought that was the definate end of it but I switched it on and it booted for me to see the XP login screen. I shut it down and tried to see whether the problem was the laptop or the charger. So I put the lead back into the computer and saw that the light on the charger was flickering so I thought it was the charger and went out and bought a new 1. Only for me to discover nearly 9 hours after it had occured that the laptop is no longer switching on and is no longer charging at all.

There is a smell coming from the electrical port of the laptop like a burnt electrical smell. I hope it isn't the motherboard.

Can someone please help me.

I am no expert but have been told - and can see the evidence- that it is a problem with the fan, which doesn't work any more, so doesn't cool the machine, so it overheats every time it is switched on. And the longer you leave it on, the more it heats up. The packard bell R0422 blogs seem to support this too.
What I need to do now is to find and install another fan. It seems easy to install, but not so easy to find. I took it to a repairer who said the part would cost £95. After picking myself up from the floor I looked at a couple of websites where the fans are much cheaper - but couldn't find a R0422. Please let me know if you find one.

Packard bell easynote te69kb

Lacking any other details to you query, the most likely reason, the battery is old and has achieved its end of life- and can therefore no longer hold a charge.

However, there are other possibilities, too.

Screen goes black on my easynote R0422

On the product page for your laptop, they discuss an issue where the screen turns white and not black but sounds similar:

http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=instr_releasenotes_bios_rhea_a_dc

Look here for the BIOS Update:

http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=7407010300&ppn=PB52M01101

PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS! IF YOU DO NOT PERFORM THIS PROPERLY YOUR COMPUTER MIGHT BECOME A PAPERWEIGHT!

I apologize for the above in capital letters but just want to warn you if you do not feel comfortable about this, take it to someone who could update the bios for you.

Packard Bell Easynote R1802 Switch Off When Battery is plugged in

The battery is probably faulty, try a different one. If it does the same thing with a different battery, then must be a short in behind the battery socket on the laptop. In that case better take it to service.

Power source

Most laptop batteries die - that is, fail to hold a charge, after a few years use, and have to be replaced. That is the probably the reason for your problem.
