I have a Packard Bell Easynote R0422 and it is no longer switiching or charging. I was using it and it starting making some noise. I pulled the top of the laptop down for me to see smoke coming out of the port where the AC charger goes. I pulled it out and the laptop switched itself off. I thought that was the definate end of it but I switched it on and it booted for me to see the XP login screen. I shut it down and tried to see whether the problem was the laptop or the charger. So I put the lead back into the computer and saw that the light on the charger was flickering so I thought it was the charger and went out and bought a new 1. Only for me to discover nearly 9 hours after it had occured that the laptop is no longer switching on and is no longer charging at all.
There is a smell coming from the electrical port of the laptop like a burnt electrical smell. I hope it isn't the motherboard.
Can someone please help me.

I am no expert but have been told - and can see the evidence- that it is a problem with the fan, which doesn't work any more, so doesn't cool the machine, so it overheats every time it is switched on. And the longer you leave it on, the more it heats up. The packard bell R0422 blogs seem to support this too.
What I need to do now is to find and install another fan. It seems easy to install, but not so easy to find. I took it to a repairer who said the part would cost £95. After picking myself up from the floor I looked at a couple of websites where the fans are much cheaper - but couldn't find a R0422. Please let me know if you find one.
