Question about Kenmore 64522 Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Freezer is freezing up.

I've defrosted it once already, but that was before I cleaned the coils. I have cleaned the coils, but it's still freezing causing the air flow to my fridge to be blocked which makes my fridge warm up. Any ideas what's causing this?

Have a look at your door seals - if they're not airtight, the fridge will just suck in water vapour and freeze it. A.

Freezer side not freezing

Check for ice / frosting inside the freezer .... If present you probably have a defrost problem.... This causes the freezer coil to ice up and block the air flow ... the causes could be a bad defrost heater , defrost timer, defrost sensors, or control board. Also make sure that the condenser coil is clean. remove ALL dust with a vacuum and a coil brush .the coil is located either on the bottom or on the back side of the unit... You didn't give the Make and model #

Bottom freezer Amana coils freeze up already replaced defrost timer.

the most common problem i find is either the defrost heater or termination thermostat, both found in the freezer and on the evaporator coil.it is very likely one of these since you replaced the timer already.

My side by side coils freeze. I already changed out the mother board but within two weeks it freezes again. Any ideas?

You may have changed the wrong part.
The defrost heater and defrost thermostat are bad.
They are located inside the freezer coils behind the freezer panel.

Refrigerator is cold, freezer not freezing

Amana refrig have 2 main problems . 1 is the defrost bimetal ( 1" cylinder at the top right on the freezer coils with 2 wires ) and the other is a refrigerant leak where the copper tubing joins the aluminum tubing at the freezer coils ( evaporator coils ) . If your freezer fan is not working and you have frost on the freezer coils then replace the bimetal as this also controls the defrost heater ( defrost thermostat ) . If you have no frost on the coils ( for both checks , you will have to remove the inside rear freezer panel , maybe 12 screws ) , then a refrigerant leak has happened and the best solution would be to replace the refrig .

Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Drain keep freezing up at entry point to the drain tube causing water to freeze from the drain top down to the bottom of the freezer. ( frozen waterfall!) Could the defrost heater be malfunctioning? i.e....

Not sure of your model number and manufacturer, but in some freezer there is a seperate drain heater that should stay on for the complete defrost time. (the defrost heater will shut off when the evap coil reaches a certain temp, and the rest of the defrost time only the drain heater is energized.) That would be the very first place that I would start. Hope this helps

Coils behind the freezer continue to "freeze up"

You have a problem in the defrost system There are three components: Defrost timer, defrost thermostst or terminator, and defrost heater. One of them has failed which is causing the evaporator to ice.

Freezer coils regularly freeze over

You have an automatic defrost problem. Here are the three components that can cause this defect in order of most common to least. #1 defrost timer or equivalent adaptive defrost control board, #2 defrost termination thermostat (should be replaced regardless since it has been frozen in ice several times) #3 defrost heating element(rarely fails but is possible). If you have a meter you can check the thermostat and element for continuity they should show an infinite reading if they are operational. the termination thermostat must be below 35 deg f to show a closed circuit.
