SOURCE: May I use a Soligor 24D Flash on my new Nikon D40X Digital Camera

You can purchase an off-camera flash sync adaptor at any good camera store, complete with extension cable.   The should work fine.

SOURCE: Nikon d40x LCD screen stopped working

Have you tried the 'Menu' button? If you've turned off 'Review' in the settings menu, the screen doesn't show anything after you take a picture. If the screen doesn't come on when you push the 'Menu' button with a charged battery installed, your camera will need to be repaired.

SOURCE: Nikon D40X inbuilt flash

Like every product out there, there is the top of the line, the middle and the bottom of the barrel. The D40x is unfortunately the bottom of the barrel, its Nikons way of competing with the Canon rebel. This product should not have been released, they used cheaper parts and they are mass produced so the quality is not the same as their Top of the lines.

If your camera is under the 30 days, take it back to the retailer. If you bought it online, send an email and get a RMA. Return Manufacture Authorization.

Save your money and spend a few bucks more and get a model higher than the bottom of the line next time.

SOURCE: Nikon d40x shutter stuck

The manual (pg 112) simply, and unfortunately, states this message "Press shutter release button again. If error persists, consult with Nikon-authorized service representative".

Some questions that might help: have you had the camera in some extreme conditions, damp, sand, etc. Clean the shutter button really well. Maybe use a small air blower and clean in the shutter release creases.

In the end, if the error continues, it will need to be serviced.

LCD screen flashes

There is nothing wrong with your camera - It is doing what it is meant to do!

The purpose of the flashing areas is to drawn your attention to parts of the image that are over-exposed. In an ideal world nothing would ever be overexposed, but if the image has both very dark and very bright areas, the camera cannot capture both - something has to give! The flashing areas are just to let you know.

It's covered on page 52 of the manual.

Nikon D40X inbuilt flash

If it's withing 30 days, get it exchanged. I have a D70s and it's been working fine for me, maybe something with the D40x with other customers? Take it back to the store and let an "instructor" try it out to make sure it's not a setting.

It's great for the manufacturer to know about any problems so they can get a good sample of problems to help many people. Good luck.
