Ok it all started when i was done with my update. when i was done with it, i followed the directions and disconnected it. then when i go past song number 20 it goes crazy and turns off and turns back on, and everything is reset. i need help trying to figure out to do.
some one please help me.

Try formating the sansa first. You can do so by clicking on "My computer" and then right click on the sansa drive and "Format".
It will help in case the 20th song was in an invalid format.

We had this problem with our son's Sansa Fuze. The fix was to update Windows Media Player on the computer that wasn't seeing it. So, if you're running different versions of WMP, you might want to try that.
You can try to reset the device by pressing the power button for about 15 to 20 seconds..if that doesnt work I would recommend you to go to the sandisk site to update the firmware on your device or you can contact sandisk to they can help you with updating the firmware on your device..Please follow the link below to get the firmware http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376

Deleting songs from your M230 can be done by either browsing the player through your Windows Explorer and then selectively deleting the music file, or by formatting the player which would delete all of your music files.
It's also important to know that your player has 2 modes -- MTP and MSC -- because music files saved in one mode would not be seen in the other mode, and vice versa.
To switch the modes on your player, use the menu and navigate as follows:
Menu > Settings > USB
You would get a choice of "Autodetect" (this is for MTP) and MSC.
Here's how to delete the files:
Plug in your player to your computer. Open explorer and check if your player is detected. Your player's LCD would display "USB Connected" and the mode would be indicated below that.
If your player's mode is MTP:
A. Look for the Sansa M230 icon on Explorer (it will be recognized as a Portable Audio Device). Double left click on it to browse the player.
B. The player will have 2 sub-folders: "Data" and "Media". Double left-click on the "Media" folder and either find your music files or open the "Music" folder to find your music files
If your player's mode is MSC:
A. Look for the Sansa M230 icon and drive letter on Explorer (it will be recognized as a "Removable Drive". Double left click on it to browse the player.
B. The player will have several sub-folders such as "Audible", "Config", "Record". You may already be able to see your music files or the player may have a "Music" sub-folder. Open that to check for your files
Once you've located your files, you may now be able to delete them.
Once you've unplugged your player, the M230's LCD will display the message "Rebuilding Library". Let that process complete, then you may turn on your player to confirm that the files have been deleted.
To format your player, just right-click on the M230 icon in Explorer, then select "Format". When the Format window appears, make sure to select "FAT" as the File System type, and also make sure that the "Quick Format" checkbox at the bottom of the Window remains un-checked.

Your M230 may have encountered a corruption in its Music Database, and may be corrected by formatting and updating the firmware.
Try this: Manually switch the player to MSC mode and format through "Disk Management".
Here are the steps:
Locate the "Hold" switch on the side of the M230 and enable it (you should see an "orange-colored" surface when it's enabled)
Plug the M230 to your computer (recommended Operating System is Windows XP and above) and check Windows Explorer if the player is detected as a "Removable Drive"
Open "Computer Management" by right-clicking on the "My Computer" icon, then selecting "Manage"
Your "Computer Management" window should be divided into 2 panes. On the left pane, click on "Disk Management"
On the upper right pane of "Disk Management", you should find the drive letter corresponding to your Sansa M230. The lower section also contains the drive # pertaining to your M230. Right-click on either drive letters pertaining to the M230 and select "Format". Follow the on-screen prompts. Make sure that the "Quick Format" checkbox remains un-checked.
In general, Disk Management is more the effective tool for formatting your M230 and assuming the format processing completed without any errors, proceed to updating the firmware of your player.

Save this file to your Desktop and run it while your M230 is still plugged in to your PC. Follow the on-screen prompts.
"Safely remove" your M230 from your PC and -- with a fresh battery -- power on your player. It should boot up normally.
