I wonder if you can tell me what might cause a standard gauge, relatively new train to fail to reverse when the "change direction" button on the transformer is depressed. It worked fine until a few days ago. I tried reversing the wires attached to the track to see if that might change polarity and make the train go in reverse. That didn't work. (I don't know whether it should have) The train stops for as long as the button is depressed (and lights in buildings go out as well), but then continues forward once the button is released. Any hint you can offer is appreciated.
There should be a switch under or in the cab section that turns off/on the reverse function.

One of the kids must have changed the switch!!! Once I flipped it to its other setting, reverse began to work again. I didn't know the switch was there and would never have figured this out. Thank you very much and Merry Christmas!
