Laptop shuts off, and wont turn back on.

Ok here's whats going on. I'm working with an HP nc8000. My computer a couple weeks ago decided to just start shutting off on me. The thing is, just the screen goes blank and I can hear the fan and the hd still engaged. I will have to manually turn it off, and if I would try to turn it back on right away instead of the charging light being green like usual, it would be orange and wait a couple seconds and just turn back off again, this time shutting everything off.

This happens regardless of ac power or only battery power.

I know its not a hd problem because I put a spare hd in it and it does the same thing.

I'm thinking it is probably a heat issue whether it be the fan clogged or needing a new heat sink, something along those lines.

If I let it go for about a day and turn it back on it will boot up to windows (XP Pro sv. pack 2) with nothing lost, and i can do what I want for about 5 minutes and then it starts all over, shut off the screen, hd and fan seem to still be running and I have to manually shut it off again.

If theres anyway you can help me, I need this laptop to work, and that would be great.

Thanks,

Jon

My A215 wont stay powered up. It shut down and

Try running the computer on the Battery power and check if the power sustains. If not, then disconnect the power cord and remove the battery and leave it for a few hours then try turning it on.

If the problem exists then the power supply unit is required to be replaced. You may contact service center to get the power supply unit replaced.

Left hinge broke and no screen.

Its possible that there is a cable loose causing a short, which could have happened when the hinge broke.

This would explain why you are not seeing any display. To test if the display is bad, or if the computer is just not working, you can plug in an external monitor. It will help you to see if you nicked the cable, or if the system board is going.

Hold your power button down until it shuts off. Turn it back on and let it scan to fix the problem itself. It may ask your permission to do this or automatically do it, just do it. Should fix the problem.

AC Power and Battery Problem.....

Sounds like the battery or possibly the charging circits themselves are the problem. Can you try turning on the laptop with just the power cord in and no battery?

Hp nc8000 power issue

Many of the power jacks also contain switch contacts that allow the adapter to power both the laptop and the "charging" system. I would suspect that one of the leads had either been broken or at least detached from the pc board. This laptop needs to be dis-assembled and the power jack repaired. Worse case will result in the replacement of the jack or the repair of the board if that part has been cracked.
