Re: pictures too dark
Check your exposure compensation. It really sounds like someone set the camera to underexpose. This may be solved by removing the batteries for a few minutes. Other solutions are hitting the reset which will cancel all and return it to factory settings OR navigate to the exposure compensation settings and reset it there. If none of these solutions work, then the camera's internal program is messed up and its internal computer needs replaced.

You have to Manually Set/Override the ISO settings to a larger number like 1600 or higher this will let the camera take pictures at faster shutter speed to freeze the action, Try to use the camera in more manual modes, Tell the camera what do, old school photograpy.
Clear the custom functions and clear the camera settings in the main menu set the camera to P mode to get there! If you want to know if it is the lens. Put the camera in P mode and set the iso to 1600 and press the button on the bottom left side of the camera and listen to the lens diaphragm you should hear it moving, point the camera somewhere dark. Or set the camera to AV mode put the iso to 100 and turn the dial behind the shutter release switch all the way to the right and take a pic pointed towards a light source if the camera goes error 99 then it is the lens diaphragm! When I test a camera I set it to P mode and the iso to 400 and use the center focusing light and take four pics, one with the flash and one without close up and two as far away as possible one with the flash and one without and then compare the pics! Are you using the 18-55 mm is lens that came with the camera or a different one!
