No system sound on my HP Pavilion dv1000

All of a sudden my system sounds are missing on my laptop. I can play and hear media files fine, but no system sounds. In addition the mute, volume up and volume down buttons are not functional. When I go to volume control, PC Speakers is greyed out. No Mutes are checked. Any suggestions? HP help desk is useless.

    Thanks Tim:

I have tried these solutions. I have found that when I play a DVD on the machine, the volume and mute buttons work. I am more convinced that the problem lies with the pc speaker on the mother board since the add-on speakers and controls are working fine.

Have you checked device manager? You may try reinstalling the driver through device manager? Check the audio properties in sound. you May be try running a virus/spyware scan. When something suddenly goes out its either dead, corrupt driver or virus/spyware/highjacker etc. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you will check the support website of HP the model DV1000 dont have available drivers for windows 7 system. However you can try to use the driver of Windows Vista if it will works. DV1000 was released before the Windows 7 OS that's why the driver is not available.

I re-installed windows xp professional OS on my HP pavilion dv1000 and whenever I try to play a cd, it tells me that Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound...

Even though you installed windows you may not have installed the drivers required for the sound card. These are available here

You should also download any other drivers that may be required while you are there.

Check by going to CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.

If there are any items in the hardware list with an exclamation mark the get the drivers for that too as you need to make sure your hardware is 100% working before you do much else.

No Sound Can Be Heard

that message usually means that the audio file is the wrong format for that media player you can download a different player that plays that format, go into my computer and pull up the music files that dont play right click on one and select properties and it will tell you its format/file type

A............ working good, that means the speaker of your laptop may have problem, hardware problem. (no one can do anything for you)
B............still no sound, maybe the software/driver problem, try to uninstall the old driver, and reinstall again.

No sound

Hi there, and welcome to FixYa,

As it is, HP doesn’t offer any specific driver for your “media” sound.
Therefore I suspect that what you need is AC97:
Get the Sp28482.exe from here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-22934-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=228&product=435618

Good luck

Sound is not working on my hp laptop

I had the same problem; my laptop's speakers suddenly stopped working but I could still use the headphones and sound was fine.

I played around a while and searched the net; and I got them to work:

Open Control Panel- Sound, Speech, Audio Devices-------->
1) Audio Tab
2) Under 'Sound Playback' hit Advanced
3) At the bottom where it has Speaker Setup change it to "Laptop Stereo Speakers" (mine was initially on "Desktop Stereo Speakers" for some odd reason)

Problem solved, Thank God (Alhamdulilah)!

Hope it works out for you :)

HP Pavilion dv1000 PC Notebook Audio Problem

There are two different audio cards shipped with Pavilion DV1000 series Notebooks.

If your Notebooks belong to DV1600 series, your Notebook should have been shipped with Conexant High Definition Audio card.

This can be one of the reason why you are unable to install the Conexant AC Link audio drivers in your Notebooks.

You need to install Microsoft UAA Drivers first before installing the Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers in the Notebook.

Download the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture(UAA) Drivers for your Notebook from the HP link below :

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32646.exe

Please save the file in the Notebook and double click it after the download completes to install the drivers. Restart the Computer once the installation of the Microsoft UAA Drivers is completed.

Now download the Conexant High Definition audio drivers from the link below :

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32864.exe

Save the file and double click on it once it is saved to install the Drivers.

This should solve the issue with audio in your Notebooks.

Hope this helps...
