Trouble installing XE102 Powerline

I am trying to install a powerline network at my home. When plugged in, both XE102's show the correct LED's being lit meaning the Power, Network and Powerline network lights stay on properly. The 1st XE102 is connected to my WRT54G router and the second XE102 is connected to my laptop. I am seeing 2 issues

1. When I run the powerline encryption utility, I don't see any devices connected to the network.
2. My laptop cannot connect to its XE102, the network connection shows that it has limited or no connectivity.

Can someone help ?

Thanks!

There wasn't actually any problem with the device. For these bridges to work, you need to be on the same phase of the wiring. If the devices are on different phases then they can't communicate. But I still couldn't get the encryption to work. Netgear support doesn't seemed to be bothered with that...they told me to ignore it.

What does the light in the middle mean because mine wont stay on?

Hi,

It simply tells you that no other powerline devices detected on the powerline network.

You may refer to this image link.

The middle ight keeps blinking and it wont work how do i fix it

Blinking middle light indicates an issue with the powerline used between the powerline adapters. To isolate the issue plug both the poweline adapters in the same room and check the lights on them. If they work fine in the same room then the issue is with the powerline. You may have circuit breaker, surge protector between the powerline adapters and that will prevent you to get a connection.
Hope this helps.

I have MacBook and it is not recognizing the ethernet connection

1. First check the light status of the XE102.
2. Then hard reset the Xe102
3. As this is a plug n play device all the lights should come on.
4. In case if the lights wont come on.
5. Check the powerline ..
6. And if that will not work , get a new adapter or replace the existing one from netgear ( 1-888-638-4327 )

My download speed has been reduced from 20 Mbits to 2 Mbits after having plugged in a set of XE102. Why? Can I do something ? Regards Mogens Villy Møller Copenhagen Denmark

The top speed between the devices is 14 Mb/s, so they will never attain the 20Mb/s speed you had with you router / modem.

  • Powerline products work better when plugged into the wall without power strips, extension cords, surge protectors, or uninterruptable power supplies.
  • Passwords. Powerline products have both a network password, and a device password. A particular device's password, which is not changable, is printed on the Powerline product label. Once you have collected all your Powerline device passwords, use the encryption dialog box, as described on pages 9 and 12 of the XE102 User's Guide, to change the network password. (Without password protection, it is possible, although unlikely, for someone very nearby to access your network.)
  • If you changed the default network password, make sure that all the Powerline products use the same network password.
  • If you've moved a Powerline unit, or disconnected the cables, your other network devices may need about 5 minutes to refresh their information about the Powerline's current status.
  • If you have earlier Powerline products, switch to the encryption used by later products. (Early versions of XA601 and XE602 are known to have compatibility problems with newer models.)
  • To test whether a house's electrical wiring is contributing to Powerline problems, plug units in the same room. Examples of potential problems are:
    • Old fuse boxes.
    • Old wiring that does not meet modern wiring building codes.
  • Swap devices to isolate the problem to a particular Powerline unit.
  • Reset the Powerline adapters to the default settings using the utility.
  • Use all the same Powerline models for best connectivity. Also, software for one model may not work for another model. In particular, remote and advanced features may not work between Powerline manufacturers.
  • Powerline is not directed at businesses, however it may work in a business environment, anyhow. See Assessing Powerline for Business Environments. In some cases noise can be limited by placing line conditioners or surge protectors between the source of the noise, and the Powerline units. (Not between the units.) Consult a professional electrician to evaluate your electricity's noise and to suggest remedies.

Widows cant find thr driver

Hi, Please note that this powerline adapter does not require any drivers to work. It is a plug and play device and will work without a software. The software can be used just to encrypt the network

I have a logitech cctc system but when i plug in the usb device it states there is a problem with the powerline bridge driver and states its not compatable with vista but logitech states it is compatable...

You might have a 64-bit Windows installed. The drivers on the CD are only for 32-bit windows. Download and install the latest drivers from Logitech website (http://www.wilife.com/Support/Downloads.aspx), which includes the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Hope this helps !
