Video freezes when streaming to the internet

Hi folks: Just bought one of these cameras to try and so far it seems great - much better image quality than the wirless X-10 cameras I had been using. One issue has occurred. When using the active X over the internet to view the video the video seems to freeze about every 5 to 10 seconds - it usually comes back after another few seconds. (Freezing does not occur on my local network) Would I be correct to assume that this is an uplink problem? - i.e. upload capacity of my DSL line is not fast enough to accomodate the streaming video? I set the image to be 160 x 120, 15 fps and very high compresion - this seemed to help a bit. Is there anything else I should be doing (firmware version is 3.00 2005-11-16) Best regards, thanks for any suggestions you can offer... Dave Melnyk, Toronto, Canada

I'm having the same problem except ten times worse. I am positive it has to do with the router, because I had to mess with it to get my Windows Live messenger to work...

Are you connected through a router?

Dave, While of course it may be a capacity issue. Is the video smoother at different times of the day? or is it every 5-10 seconds no matter what time of day. It may be security software checking the stream. How is your firewall/router set? Do you have a designated port for the camera? Let me know if that helps at all. Good Luck, Tim

Can I use my Canon A540 PowerShot as a webcam for (up close) makeup tutorials?

You cannot. Your camera is far too sophisticated and its sensor produces high resolution images, so to hope it can produce low resolution 320 x240 images as streaming video is not realistic.

Hi I have downloaded skype for my web camera but camera not working very well

You won't get a great call quality when you're on wireless, especially when there are other people using your network. You also want to make sure that you're not downloading anything or watching streaming video from youtube or hulu when you're on it as it will greatly reduce the quality of the call. You will see things such as choppy frame rate, frozen images, etc. Try and hard wire into your router if it's really bad, else try and wait for a time where nobody is using your network.

Streaming Videos in Wide or Full Screen greatly Reduces Quality

Hi,

Try this fix..

Right click on the streaming video and go to settings.
Uncheck the option that says "Enable Hardware Acccelaration"

If it does not work then remove the current version of the flash player and download the latest version of flash player and adobe shockwave player.

Image freezes

My computer freezes every time I use my camera. What can I do?
trnsp.gif Answer Normally if a camera freezes after a few seconds, it is related to the USB chipset you are running. Some chipsets do not have enough bandwidth to support a camera. Make sure you are plugging the camera directly into the computer while testing and unplug any other USB devices you may have except a keyboard or a mouse.
To resolve the issue, we recommend using the USB troubleshooting steps detailed in Troubleshooting USB Issues.
If you have the same issue but do not have the USB chipsets discussed in the document, please make sure you have the latest version of the Logitech camera software AND the latest version of DirectX.
You may also want to slow down the hardware acceleration. To do this, right click on the desktop and choose Properties. Click on Advanced/troubleshoot. Lower the hardware acceleration, apply any changes and try the camera again.
If you are running Windows XP, please make sure you have the latest sound card, video card and Windows XP updates. You can get the sound card and video card updates from the card manufacturers or PC manufacturers web site. You can get the Windows XP updates from Microsoft. With the release of any new operating system, we suggest that you check for updates to the operating system and hardware drivers. These updates can resolve many video streaming issues.

Poor Video Quality

My capture software defaults to capture specs of 720x480x32 at 29.97 frames per second. It previews video at 360x240x32 at 29.97 fps. What resolution is your capture operating at? How about the camera?
