Brother MFC-8460N All-In-One Printer Logo

Ghost printing Brother mfc-8460N is ghosting--that is it appears to print/reprint on the same page preious paragraphs. Print a blank sheet and it comes out blank, but print a 1 paragraph printing and it prints 1 good copy and then lower of the page a 2nd faint (usually) copy. Have changed drum and toner as I assumed the drum was bad. Have run Staples' "Laser Printer Cleaning Sheet" printer cleaning sheet through on the previous drum.....it helped but problem returns.

This machine needs a new fuser. That is a common issue.

Hi Phillip,
If you have changed the drum and toner, then check the fuser unit. The teflon coating on fuser film could be worn.

How do I fix double printing

Not sure what you mean by double printing.

Is it printing a ghost of what you print further down the page. Or is it mis-aligning the characters so it appears to have a shadow on each character?

Ghost printing

Hello,

You have a worn image drum. The drum is the part of the printer that the print image is created on before it transfers the toner to the paper. This part is coated with a very thin layer of Teflon so the toner does not stick. When it gets worn the toner starts to stick and that produces the shadow or ghost image approximately 3 inches down the page because the diameter of the drum roller is 3 inches. You will need to get the part DR-350, Office Depot has them as well as many places on the internet.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Ghostly effect

If drum is a genuine Brother, then open the rear door and look at the fuser rollers, if you see toner or partial images on the rollers you need a new fuser, if the fuser is clean, look at the drum surface and if you see parts of last print then the drum is bad. In reports, print the user options list it will give the total print count. The fuser is worn out around 80 to 100,000 prints.

Printing blank pages when receiving fax

Ask if the ones sending are sending legal size, it may be using 2 sheets to get all from a legal size document.

My Brother MFC-8460N is ghosting when printing or copying.

I would contact brother directly they can guide you thru some of their codes to put in the printer and it can tell them whats going on with it. If they ask how old it is just say you purchased it 6 months ago or if it is newer just let them know.the warranty period is one year and they can replace it for you.
