Re: i turned it off and it would not turn back on
The red light you see is the power indicator. Everytime you insert the battery it should flash.
Your problem can appear from 2 causes. One of them is the cameras processor (some processing error that blocked the camera) or a shock received by the camera, it maybe caused one of the small connectors inside to get loose or in the worst case damaged the lens assembly preventing it to initialise properly.
First thing to do would be to reset the camera. For doing this, please remove the battery from it and then keep the power button pressed for about 1-2minutes. After that press twice every button on the camera, including the zoom swich or the menu buttons (anything that can be pressed or moved). Leave the camera for half an hour without battery and then press again the power button for 1-2 minutes. You can connect the battery after that and see what happens. If this doesn't work you may need to have it fixed in a service center because it will need to be dissasembled and diagnosticated.
If you need more assistance in locating a problem or how to perform this reset you can find me or other experts on the live chat feature on the site or you can post back here.

yeah when you change the setting it will give you a few seconds to ok it but if you dont it reverts back to the hdmi btw the composite ones must be attached so go to cousins house hook up hdmi then switch hook up avi cables then ok go home should work fine
All you have to do is this: While it's off(red light is on) hold down the ON button until it turns on then turns back off. Now just turn it back on normally and it should greet you with display settings. Hope this works!
I would first check to see if by holding it he did not put in in lock mold. If he did not check the battrey it could be weak. If that is not it then if you have a MicroSd card check to see it did not get jamed in to hard. And last I hate to say if all the rest does not work he may have broke it sorry.
it probably froze try and remove battery. if that dont work turn it on and wait a second then hold the power switch in the off position but do not let go until it turns off that should completey restart it.
If your friend dropped it the in they are a good frien thay will ofer to replace it. Any repair even if one were possible and oftern they are not will be costly. So a Good friend will go buy you the replacement
don´t try to do anything, that cameras are a pain for the service centre, i repaired some myself and sometimes after i replaced all the boards, just have 2, it would die, without any reason ate all. just send it to a service centre u have a 2 year warranty, use it
