DVD problem I can write and read cd's without any problem, I can also play music discs or gaming discs but I can not read a DVD? This is the first time I have tried a DVD although I have the Dell 4600 for 4 years and use it constantly for my work.

Up to a month ago, dvd worked fine, but I tried to watch a

dvd a few weeks ago, and nothing would happen.

It will play Cd's a CDVD's

Had the same problem with my Dell 2400. Used it four years and never tried to read DVD although they claimed both drives would read DVD and one would write them. The computer would call them DVD/CD/CD R, BUT Dell lied when they sold the system and neither drive would read or play DVD and was not a DVD drive. Replaced the standard drives with REAL DVD drives and it works fine. Dell is now under investigation for false advertising, beware.

In your case sometimes there is possible chances of faulty Lens of your Drive Mechanism please check it out no matter it plays compact disc normally.

My acard technology pro burns dvds but the target dvds end up all scratchy like quality the pixels move and everything

is resolutions pixel problem only on the dvd disks you burn?
you might have to save the dvd to a file first then burn it to a dvd
are you copyning from another dvd or from a saved file ??
you might be burning it as data
this might be a problem with the quality of the dvd disks you are using or might be the software you are using there are lots of free burning sofrware programs on the internet

Xbox wont read any of our games, but the games will read on friends. We can listen to music or use our microsoft points to watch movies.

Sounds like an issue with the optical drive. I would suggest trying a different type of disc in the drive ( I think they can play music CD's as well as DVD discs). You might just need a replacement drive for it.

Disc drive not reading disc

To best respond to your question, let me review what happens when the unit tries to read the disc. First a check is made to see if a disc is present at all. If a disc is detected, the next step is to spin it up. You should be able to hear this happen. OInce the disc is spinning, the initial track (closest to the center of the disc) is read. If the read fails, a number of times, the mesasge about not reading the disc is presented. This failure can be caused by a number of different things:

1) The lens is dirty
2) The disc is not spining at the correct speed
3) The disc did not get up to speed fast enough
4) The loading sequence did not complete.
5) Defective optics

I will list the typical solution for each of the possibilities above:

1) Clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol and try again.
2) Replace the optics assembly (motor is not a replacement part.)
3) Same as #2
4) Replace the loading belt located under the tray. (get help with this as it is a bit tricky to do without mis-timing the loading sequence.)
5) Replace the optics asembly.

To confirm that the optics are actually defective, try playing a music CD. If a music CD will play but a game or DVD will not and you have cleaned the lens, then the optics are likely to be defective. A game or DVD requires a different (higher) level of laser light to function than a CD.

You can buy new DVD pickups online for about 15-20 It will take a very small phillips screwdriver and needlenose pliers to change out the old one

My dvd player dvp615 doesn´t play dvd discs. only music cd´s

The unit has two lasers one for the cd and one for the dvd, the one for the dvd is bad and the whole laser assembly needs replaced. Cheaper to buy a new player.... sorry

Inserted disc press play grinding sound and disc left scrapped

If your xbox box it's new I would take it back and get another one, becase you do probable have problems with your dvd drive and it will keep scratching the games. the laser on the drive doesn't work as hard when playing a music cd than when it plays a game or a dvd.

If you don't want to take it back, then play a couple dvds and if it reads then fine then you could try again. it shiudn't take more than ten second to read a game so if its taking longer just get it out.

Won't Play Games, DVD and CD fine

I am guessing that when it was refurbished, it was because of a disc drive error... so i am about 90% sure that they didn't flash the disc drive and that would be their mistake. Disc Drives have their own memory and would still be able to play cd's and dvd's without problems... but if they are not flashed correctly through a sata computer with the correct hardware, they will not play games. My opinion is that you should contact the place which you bought it from, it's not your fault.

No Data message when inserting a game disc, but unit will play music discs PS2 system, is this a laser problem

yes this is a 100% laser problem.the music cd that you play is not a dvd disc its a normal cd-r.the ps2 laser consist of 2 laser diode reader.the dvd section is already busted.so it needs a replacement
