S40 Battery problem

Reaplaced my dead rechargeable batteries with new alkaline AA's and the camera won't work - still shows "battery depleted". These new batteries work in my daughters camera so they are not the problem. I tried some NIMH batteries and they work in my camera. Why won't my camera accept the akaline batteries ?

Pebtax Option S50 - Battery Depleted Error message - I use re-chargable batteries which work in other cameras. After charging for 12 hours it still says battery depleted. Can it be anything else?

This is not exclusively a battery problem and may be related in some cases to a firmware bug in the camera. In some circumstances you can get the same error if youdownload images vis the USB lead and don't disconnet in the right way. Sometimes reconnecting the camera clears the problem and sometimes it doesn't.

Alkaline batteries are not capable of outputting the level of power required for your camera to operate. Your daughter's camera may have lower requirements and be able to function properly using alkaline batteries. Your standard alkaline battery outputs about 700 milliamps of power when they are brand new. A rechargeable NiMH battery can range from 1200 to 2700 or even 3200 milliamps max power output depending on the quality of the battery. Most compact digital cameras that accept AA style batteries are designed for these high-output rechargeables and will not function for very long even on fresh Alkaline batteries. This camera is also able to use CRV3's. Some brands of the rechargeable version have a slightly power output than the disposable and work well when alkalines and NiMHs don't.

Does the replacement battery have to be rechargeable

The reason for using rechargeable batteries is because cameras use a lot of power and the batteries can deplete quickly. Some have specially made batteries that only fit that particular camera like my Canon S10.

If they take a standard size AA battery, you can use good quality Manganese Alkaline batteries like Duracell, but you are better off choosing Lithium equivalents for the extra power and length of life. For rechargeable batteries, Sanyo Eneloop are the best and are the brand leader.

'make model (what it is)' in all questions please.

Not sure the A3300 has two AA sized batteries, but if it had:
Sure your batteries are still tip top?
Try two new AA sized NiMH rechargeable batteries or if you have some new alkaline batteries, put them in. the alkaline batteries won't last long, but it it could hint if the camera is still working and worth buying new rechargeables.
AA manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries cannot be used with this camera.
But even if it has one battery, check the battery.
Read other parts about batteries, in other help text I wrote for other users.

Is it necessary to use Kodak AA alkaline batteries in the camera or will other AA alkalines work?

Hi,
Other battery will work in your camera as long as it is AA alkaline.
You can also use rechargeable battery with different brand.

Battery depleted

Sounds like the battery might be defective/worn out. If it's AA batteries (a.k.a. R6) try with a pair of good-quality alkaline batteries to see if it works then. Cheap batteries often doesn't have enogh "umph" to power cameras.

Batteries are Depleted

A camera rep told me that use about 2500mi (?) batteries instead of the 900 I was using otherwise the batteries will be depleted with just one picture. Digital cameras or any other digital piece of equipment needs the extra power. Make sure that your charger will charge the 2500 power ones fully.

Depleted Batteries

Clean the contacts in the battery chamber to get to the bottom of the chamber use an eraser on the end of a pencil Also the top contacts. you could also try packing out the contacts on the tops of the batteries to ensure good contact.

Choosing batteries

Your camera requires four AA size batteries. There are several factors that contribute to battery life: NiMH: This is the best solution for enjoyment and cost savings. NiMH batteries typically last longer per charge than the average alkaline batteries. NiMH batteries are rechargeable batteries, so they can be used several times and thereby reduce the expense of continually purchasing new batteries. NiMH batteries are typically sold with a power adapter for charging. The life of these batteries can often be determined by the mAh rating, the higher the mAh rating on the battery, the longer that they will last. NiMH batteries do not have the memory effect associated with NiCd batteries, which means that these batteries can be recharged at any time and at your convenience (you do not have to wait for the batteries to completely drain between charges). Lithium: Energizer has introduced a new series of Lithium batteries that provide optimum performance and long life for disposable AA size batteries. Laboratory studies shows that Lithium batteries last more than three times as long as standard Alkaline batteries. This means more hours of fun and satisfaction with your digital camera. These lithium batteries are not rechargeable, they are long lasting. Alkaline: Using the Display, downloading images, playback, zoom and flash all require some battery power to operate and may decrease the number of shots per set of batteries. Performance may vary based on the Alkaline batteries selected. The benefit of being able to use alkaline batteries is that you can find then almost anywhere if needed. Manganese: If you are using manganese batteries, the typical battery life will be about 2 - 5 shots. Then the camera will indicate that battery power is low and may shut-down. To avoid this experience, use either Alkaline or NiMH batteries. Optimum Solution: Use a set of NiMH batteries for longer use and to reduce the expense of continually buying new batteries. It may also be a good idea to keep a spare set of NiMH batteries for other devices that require AA size batteries on a regular basis. Use AA Alkaline batteries when the NiMH batteries need to be recharged and you want to continue enjoying the use of your camera.

The LCD consumes the most amount of battery power. The benefit of being able to use alkaline batteries is that you can find then almost anywhere if needed.
