Can't transfer images from my canon 40d to

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Photos are super over exposed when using 430 Speedlite w/Canon 40D, even though the settings are per the manual

if overexposed, what yuou can try and do is make the shutter speed faster (so less light reaches the sensor) or reduce to the ISO setting to 200 or lower as needed. Both these will help with overexposed images. I wouldn't recommend consulting the manual because there are so many variables... The manual doesn't know exactly how much light there will be in very shot you take, and that is the crux of photography, working out what settings work best with the light available for each shot.

Hope that helps!

40D not communicating with EOS utility

open device manager, connect camera, it will be seen briefly with yellow triangle and exclamation mark. open it up and uninstall.
Disconnect camera and close windows down. Restart windows, connect camera and switch on, windows will then find it and install driver. Took me hours to figure this one out

Switched to MAC - have EOS40D and SX100 - will not download SX100

Yes, you need to install the SX100 driver software as well. I wouldn't overwrite older versions of the Canon software, though, so do a selective install if you can.

Canon EOS 40D won't export my pictures onto my computer

Have you tried the "Adobe Camera Raw"- plug in for Adobe Photoshop, it should handle CR2-files whithout previous conversion. It is sometimes best to load the images from within a program like iView or just drag the images into a desktop folder. I think iPhoto is somehow the default program (possible to override, though).
