The cartrdge won't move

We own a Personal Wheelwriter 2 Lexmark and last time we used it the cartridge will not move as we type. We hear a few beeps when we turn on the machine but it won't budge from there. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks! Manuel

    Thanks for responding!

I pretty much did everything you mentioned above, and nothing. When I turn the typewriter on, I get a row of about 7 beeps and also the line space LED's for Line 1 and Line 2 stay on. Is this an indication of some error message? Please help!

    Thanks!

    Manuel

Thanks for your prompt response! The print wheel motor doesn't spin. I checked the white ribbon cable and the connection seems to be fine.

    Thanks for all your help!

? Cartridge..Do you mean ribbon cartridge, print Wheel, or Printer Ass'y. Also check line space LED's for error codes. Clean the sensor located on the printer ass'y (located behind the print wheel) with air. Also (power off) make sure the printer ass'y can slide freeley (L-R-L)and no obstructions have fallen into it's path. There is also a printer home position sensor located on the far left bottom of the printer ass'y travel path. Also clean with air. Let me know if you have error codes.

1+2 can be a couple of things. Flashing LED's during POST (Power On Self Test) are error codes. You might have a problem with the print wheel motor, does it sip durin POST? The other would be the keyboard. Check the connection (white ribbon cable) from the keyboard to the function PCB. I don't think you can buy a new keyboard anymore but you can get your repaired for about $50. If there is a dealer in your area they can probably test yours.

Sounds like the print wheel motor is the problem. Once again a dealer should check that or get you a remanufactured one.

How do you save a document to memory and re-type from there? Is there a re-print button?

If you do not have your instruction book, go to lexmark site and search for it, can usually download a copy, so you will allways have a reference.

try turning the machine off put a SMALL amount of oil on the large round rod running across the typewriter manually push the print head left and right a few times to see if it will loosen up. The problem is usually caused be drying oil you may consider having it serviced by a pro.
