Question about Samsung SC-D353 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
Is scd353 compatible with Vista. What else must I do to make the device work with the computer. The problem is I can't connect the digital camcorder to my computer.
I use mine in Vista with USB cable, Samsung Vista driver which works in Device Manager, but not Windows Vista Scanners and Cameras. I loaded ULead 6.0 which comes with the camera, and have no problems. This is not the way I want it to work, but it does allow me to use my camera. I would much rather Capture to Microsoft Windows Movie Maker. I do love this camera, seems they are still selling them, so hopefully Samsung with fix the driver. Microsoft lists it as Microsoft Certified Compatible? Not quite.

You shouldn't need drivers, it should work with Windows Movie Maker automatically but i've found that this camera DOES NOT TRANSFER VIDEO WITH A USB cable, regardless of what every BestBuy employee tells you. The USB only transfers still pictures from the memory card. The instruction manual is not definitive on this, but most cameras that are MiniDV that have both USB and IEEE1394 ports like this one operate similarly. Get a firewire cable and a firewire card on your pc and you'll be fine. If you use a MAC, quicktime pro and imovie will also transfer videos using only a firewire connection. i know...it's really lame, but lots of cameras that have both usb and 1394 ports on them work this way.

You will need to contact the camcorder company and see if they have an up date for the Vista compadability as this is a problem with alot of devices since microsoft pulled this stinker of a program on us. Good luck
