For no apparent reason, my camera will not take a picture sometimes. The camera window displays a flashing error message "F--", which I cannot find in the manual. It then flashes some info like "R9". Perhaps a few minutes later, the camera will start taking pictures again. This is very annoying. Help?
I have the same problem with my D50. I believe it is caused by poor electrical contact between camera and lens. The contacts may be dirty but I have tried cleaning them and I still get the same error. Moving the lens often solves the problem. This led me to suspect that it is due to slight wear of the plastic mounting bayonet on the lens. This allows the lens to fall slightly and disengage from the contact pins.
My 70-300mm lens has no problems since it only uses a few pins.

When I transferred those particular pictures to my laptop for some reason they were partially deleted from the camera which gave the 'picture error' message. Deleting that picture completely got rid of the message.
the E18 means the lens system has a problem. I had it with my S2 and sometimes it worked, sometimes not. Eventually it stopped working. The only solution was sending it to repair, they changed the lens system.
