Question about JVC XV-S500 DVD Player
I also the same JVC XVS-500 DVD that flashes "hello" and then turns off. I took it apart and cleaned it and tried the test and reset; no change.

First thing, you need to check why it is not opening. do you hear sounds when you push the open button. if you do, there is a broken rubber band. open the cover of the device, take the dvd playing section, (make sure when you unplug wire to know exactly where they go) once you change the rubber band, try to play and see if not, reset the machine. good luck

I had the exact same problem yesterday (4/8) and just playing with the open/close button several times the drawer finally opened completely and closed like it should. i then did the reset sequence and all is back to normal

2 Press the CLOCK button 3 square cloumms will blink
in the display
3 Set to 13:15 by pressing the DOWN/UP
buttons
(When the button is kept pressed, the minute/
hour indication changes continuously.)
4 Press the SET button; the time will light in
the display
To set to the nearest second...
Press the SET button when you hear the time
signal from a TV or radio
To confirm the time while listening to a CD
or radio broadcast
Press the DISPLAY button briefly on the
remote control unit. Press it again to return to
the previous display
If memory back-up batteries are exhausted
or not installed, and the power cord is plugged
in again after being disconnected, or power is
restored after a power failure, "CLOCK" will
blink in the display. Set the current time again.
