We have a Kenmore side by side #54369. The water/ice stopped working and we replaced the filter thinking this was the problem. Still not working - when we went to pop the filter out again it exploded out with pressure. The water is going into the filter but not out again. The fridge is about a year old. Thank you!
That did the trick - I defrosted the fridge for about 6 hours and then it started working again! Thank you! That did the trick - I defrosted the fridge for about 6 hours and then it started working again! Thank you!

The first thing I woulb check is the water filter itself. Water comes into the machine via the water valve, and from the valve it goes to the filter and the to its respective area, dispensor or ice maker. It's a very rare case that both the ice maker and water in the door stop working at the same time other than the filter being bad,
the tube that goes up the back of the ice box is blocked ( this may require that you defrost the box
remove the bottom of the freezer and clean out the drain
Most likely need to replace the water inlet valve. The water supply line should be directly connected to it. There are 2 valves bracketed together, 1 for the ice maker and 1 for the water dispencer. You will probably have to buy both valves, but want to do this anyway as the second valve will fail soon. Hope this helps.
I bought a brand new smartwater replacement filter and after a very short time, my water stopped coming through the door.. took out the new replacement filter and inserted a brand new one .. problem solved.. apparently some of the g.e. smartwater filter replacement cartridges don't have the high enough two plastic inserts which are attached to them at the top of the filter when you screw them on... if you have taken your cartridge in and out a few times, i think it wears down the plastic so it doesn't fit properly and won't put up whatever it is supposed to push up to make the water come through.. I personally think this is a g.e. problem with the replacement filters...
did you check the resevoir in the fresh food section it may be frozen. There is also a possibility that this refrigerator has a dual valve one sends water to the ice maker the other to the water dispenser it may be bad. I tried to look it up but the model number listed would not come up I think you are missing numbers best to get a complete model number from the refrigerator not the manual.
MAKE SURE THE ICEMAKER IS ON,ON OFF BUTTON OR LEVER IN DOWN POSITION,CHECK TUBE BEHIND ICE MAKER PULL IT OUT LOOK IN IT LOOK IN FREEZER HOLE TO MAKE SURE IT'S NOT FROZE UP,CHECK WATER INLET VALVE ON LOWER BACK OF FRIG.,LOOSEN CONNECTION TO SEE IF GETTING WATER,IF WATER IS COMING OUT IT IS A BAD WATER VALVE ONLY ONE SIDE TO WATER DISPENSER IS WORKING,VALVE IS NOT OPENIBG TO ICEMAKER SIDE,THANKS-MIKE
Thanks for the question There is a water valve just for the ice maker so the problem could be there if you have a volt meter you can check the valve what you can do to check the valve reverse the wires onthe valve and push your water dispenser if no water goes into your ice maker . you have a bad valve replace thanks for the question The appliance doc
