Picture Problems with Hitachi 53" Projection TV

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

Welcome to the world of having a convergence circuit problem. There two things you can do; get it repaired by a Factory Authorized Service Center or repair it your self. Purchase KIT 10 from B&D Enterprises, 1-800-458-6053. The kit has everything you will need except soldering equipment and experience. Good Luck, big IRISH.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

Does the blue spot have tin white lines?? Is there a picture behind the 'circle'? You may a blue crt (tube) problem.

The Stk392-120 are better ICs if you would like a link to get new ics that provide free instalation instructions with pics let me know and I will post the link.

check there are no magnets near the tv ie speakers etc,

Check you cable box compared to another tv.  The pisture may need adjusting take off front panle and use the screws to adjust pic  it could get better of worst be carefull

the unit needs new conv ic's. they are part no stk392-180 need two.Also you might need 2 2.7 ohm resistors with minimal soldering skills,you should be able to repair unit
