OK, here is what you need to do, you need to get a USB - DVD dongle, either SATA or IDE. Similar to this at this link. http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-TO-SATA-IDE-ADAPTER-CABLE-4-DVD-CD-HARD-DRIVE_W0QQitemZ220544495390QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2?hash=item335979ef1e#ht_4098wt_1152 Get your recovery DVD, put it into the DVD. Then, set the eeepc to "BOOT" from removeable media. The PC should then boot of the DVD and you can then install OR repair the install. I have included a link that gives you a step by step. http://www.sampletheweb.com/2008/01/05/installing-windows-xp-on-the-asus-eee-pc/
SOURCE: how do I restore to the factory settings. f9 is
the only way i know to do that is to format the hard drive. formatting the hard drive erases everything from the computer and reinstalls the operating system. to do this you need the disk for the operating system. put the disk into the cd/dvd ROM and then restart your computer. when the computer is starting up there will be commands that you can press at the bottom of the screen. press the button for booting from disk. this will take you through a bunch of things ask you if you want to do this. say yes to all of these and it will format your hard drive.
I hope this information was helpful, if you have any questions or comments please reply to this post and i will try to help out as much as possible
