I have a FinePix A330 that I've had for 2 years and all of a sudden when I push the button to take a picture, the camera dies completely then when I go to shut the shutter door, the lens will not go back in the camera. The only way to get it to shut is to open all the way and close it to the shutter so that it beeps, then finally it turns off. I've changed batteries all that but I'm thinking there's a deeper issue. If anyone has any ideas on what to do, it would be greatly appreciated. I've taken over 3000 pictures (not kidding) with this thing and I would hate to have to replace it.
I had nearly the same problem with my A330. Let me know if you have found a solution... I have taken my camera apart and have found that the slider switch is quite dirty. I cleaned it with a 99% Iso Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and put it back together. My camera then seemed to take a couple pictures before it would completely die as if the batteries were dead. I took it apart again and found that the capacitor for the flash not only works but HURTS *lol* When the camera dies, I have the same problem where the lens wont go in, it just dies. Turning it on and then off again sometimes works but I can only do that once or twice before the camera wont do it anymore unless I remove the batteries and then replace them. I could not fix this camera any further. Has anyone else have this problem?

It seems the camera has a lens problem. Probably one of the lens gear is broken or defective. When you try to shoot the lens moves to focus and jams in the middle of the focus so shutter will not release becasue it is not focused yet. There are couple of gears in the gear chain of the lens and it is plastic. the volume of pictures you took might have caused one of the gear to wear down. The solution is to rebuild or replace lens assy. and the cost may be around $100 in US.
