SOURCE: GZ-MG330 with mac OSX 10.4.10
I had the same problem with the Everio MG330 and I have fixed this problem!!
iMovie needs to be updated to v7.1.1 or it will NOT import from the Everio MG330 HDD video camera. iMovie '08 is not enough, it needs to be upgraded to v7.1.1
I searched long and hard and finally found this. IT WORKS NOW!!
1. Update to iMovie 7.1.1
2. Close iMovie
3. Plug in camera using USB cable (iMovie is OFF)
4. Open camera viewer to turn on camera
5. Choose top option (I think it is watch on PC or download to PC or something like that)
6. Open iMovie and follow the pop up instructions for importing.
Please go back to all of the other places you have looked to fix this problem and post this. Let's help each other.

well, to convert the file from your JVC, u have to use a tool to do this. here i recommend u Pavtube HD Converter which can convert mod, tod, mts, m2ts to many other regular format u want. and if u wanna a web cam, u have to find a specific one for web camming.
