Port forwarding problems, playing Total Annihilation (TA)
Hi, im play TA through the router and have never managed to get everything working 100% correctly. Currently:
*I can join and play games without problems
*When i try to host games the router disconnects and needs to be restarted manually when anyone attempts to join.
portforward.com suggests that i use the DMZ mode. strangely doing this stops me playing the game at all.
I have also had the router do a random disconnect during this message, which is quite a common occurance. Moving the router away from all other electronics clearly hasent helped: (solution suggested in a previous problem)
can anyone here put any guesses as to what my problem(s) might be?

Okay. If you look at Network connections on Start menu (XP) open network connections... Then select the on you are connected to... (LAN or WLAN) Click the support tab and you will see something like "192.168.1.1" Well type that into your browser, if it ask you for a password the default is normaly "admin" or "1234" (No quotes) Temper with the "Gaming" or "Wireless connections" or "port forwarding" If that does not work, are you sure you got xbox live gold? (or hit the reset button on the back of your router)
go to the router page in that port forwarding option is there type your port number and ip address then you get it which port number of the game port number after then save it then reboot it then try you get it
if u haven't already , you may need to adjust your router settings
1. enable UPnP
2. enable DMZ
3. change ip settings from dynamic to static
4. check out game sites as may have to port forward some ports
check whether the port numbers are opened for that particular game that you are trying to play if not go to the router manager i.e. the home page of the router that you have and try to open the ports Also known as port forwarding if u dont know the ports that you want for a particular game U can goto www.portforward.com and chek out the ports available for games... for any further help, plz reply back
