Question about NAD C542 CD Player
I have a one-year-old Nad C542 player that will play discs properly for a day or two and then fail to find any track on any CD for dozens of attempts. During these failed attempts, the disc spins but will neither play when the play button is engaged nor stop spinning when the stop button is pressed. The drawer open button always works however. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Bill
Found same problem with mine, solution .. place clean paper over the optic, then a magnet, leave for a few seconds, the build up of static causes a magnetic field in the optic preventing it tracking, have cured a few other brands with this as well .. shows manufactures are putting inferior parts in to their players, hope this helps !!

I've worked on 2 model 512 players. Both with the same issues.
These units are **** for the money.
I fixed one by changing power supply capacitors.
The other??? NAH

This is an issue that has plagued the 541I and 542 models - some units worked fine and some units had similar issues as the ones you mentioned. It was suppsoedly fixed beginning with Serial Number G56C54224800 but I know someone who has a later serial number and had the same issue. It could be the laser or the transport or both. Simply put NAD has a quality control issue. There products still produce great sound but the great sound at a reasonable price is seemingly coming at great cost - the lack of consistent quality.
