That is more than likely the issue right there Carrie- The FreeAgent Pro has not been formatted to be Mac readable.

So here is the process for properly formatting a Seagate Free Agent HD:

Reformatting Seagate Free Agent HD to work on Macs

This is one of the better and more simple guides I could provide you for this Seagate product.

Let me know if this proves of good reference for you.

Hi, Sorry to hear you are having problems,
When you open your hard drive, is it locked ? Do you see a pencil with a line through it in the bottom left had corner ?
It could be that the drive has inproper permissions....
So, try this, click on the Hard drive icon (Please be sure it is the external drive, NOT YOUR STARTUP DISK ) then get info on the drive. In this info window, at the very bottom, you should see a check box allowing for: ignore ownership on this volume. Please click this box.
Now, try creating folders on the drive...
If this does not work, I highly recommend reformatting this Hard Drive, that is assuming there is no valuable information on it.
After reformatting it, it really should work porperly.

I have purchased a Seagate free agent Goflex 500gb I want to run it with my Mac Pro note book it dose not work

For a MAC to use an external Hard drive, the hard drive has to be formatted FAT32 file system. That is the only file system MAC sees.

Seagate Hard Drive Pro 500 GB not detected

You need to test it by connecting it to another computer. This is the cheapest, easiest way to test if it's working.
If it does not detect on another computer then you can get it replaced by seagate. All freeagent series of drives have a 5 year warranty on them, so your drive will still be under warranty.
However, bear in mind warranty will replace the drive but does not include recovering your data. If your data on the drive is important you will need to speak to either your mac specialist or a company specialising in data recovery who can assist you.
If however the drive works in another computer, then you have confirmation that it's only something on your computer that is giving the problem. You can try connecting to a different usb port if you have not already tried that.
