I followed the steps for resetting the printer back factory defaults, however, when print a new config page, it hasn't reset the ip address back to defaults which prevents from using the admin program.
If you are using the printer in a LAN or Wireless LAN, you must assign to it an IP address compatible with your network. You do that by opening the Web admin interface of your router and assigning to the printer an address that is still free. Try 192.168.1.178 but that depends on the default gateway (192.168.1.1) that you defined for your router.

Turn off the Dell printer (assuming you want to keep that IP address as is). From the computer/server the printers are networked to, go to Printers and Faxes and locate the printer. Right-click on the printer > Properties > and there should be a tab where you can change the IP address within...sorry I can't recall the exact steps from here as I don't have access to do so from my machine. Once you change the IP, reboot printer and your conflict should be resolved.
If all else failes, you'll need to consult the NIC card manual for further diorection.
Good luck!

If you press the test button once on the network interface (a small black button near the network port) This should print out the network settings, you can then confirm the IP Address etc set on the printer.
I belive the defult setting on the network card is for DHCP= OFF, so if you default the network card you may not get the result you required.
The netword card can be set to defult by holding down the test button for more than 10 seconds. This should reset the network settings to factory defults.
You can unlock the menu on the 6312 by pressing the MENU and ENTER buttons and keep them held down for 5 to 6 seconds you can then access the menu.
The IP Address, Sub Net Mask and Gateway can be set via the control pannel menu on the pritner.
If the IP Address set in the pritner is valid for the network you should be able to get to the printers web page, you can then make changes to the pritners and network card configurations.

I replaced the drum and toner and error light is still on. What do I do????

I had the same problem with this printer. I tried cold resets and flashing the firmware on the printer and still came up with an IP of 0.0.0.0 and the printer still set to manual. Here's what worked for me.
When flashing the firmware the first time, I only had the usb connection from the computer to the printer. After a few other attempts, I tried flashing with the usb cable connected AND the network cable connected from the printer to the wall port. After this the configuration page gave me DHCP and a brand new IP Address.
Here is a working link to the firmware for Windows.
So just simply have the network cable connected while flashing the firmware on the printer, hope this helps.

To resolve blank
prints, follow the steps below:
Brother strongly
recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and/or toner
cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set
temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner
formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to
ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the
hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited
warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third party
drum units, toner cartridges or toner.
To clean the laser
glass follow the instructions listed below:
1. Turn off the
Brother machine using the power switch located on the right side of the
machine.
2. Unplug the power
cord from the AC power outlet.
3.
Open the front cover and remove the drum and toner assembly.
NOTE: We
recommend you place the toner and drum assembly on a piece of paper in case you
accidentally spill or scatter toner.
4.
The
laser glass is located inside the machine where the drum was installed. It is a
piece of glass, about 1/2 inch wide and approximately 8 inches long, located on
the ceiling of the inside of the printer. Gently wipe the glass with a clean
soft DRY cloth. DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol or any liquid to
clean the glass.
5. Place the drum
and toner assembly back into the Brother machine.
6. Close the front
cover making sure it latches on both sides.
7. Plug the machine
back into the power outlet and turn on the power switch.
8. Test the machine by printing the Print Settings page. Press
the GO button three times. The printer will print the current printer
settings.
9. If the problem continues, perform a factory
reset.
a.
Turn off the printer.
b.
Make sure the front cover is closed.
c.
Hold down the GO button as you turn on the power switch.
d.
Release the GO button when the Status light turns off. The Toner, Drum,
and Paper lights will be on.
e.
After releasing the GO button, all the lights will turn off.
f.
Press the GO button eight times.
g.
The printer settings will be reset to factory default. The printer will then
initialize and return to Ready status.
