It could be your LCD backlight giving you problems. With the computer on and the shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. Depending on the laptop this is usually an economically repairable problem. Acer connect projector

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods.
1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor.
2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times.
Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :-
IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7
HP and Compaq = Fn + F4
Toshiba = Fn + F5
ASUS and Dell = Fn + F8

How do i reboot my thinkpad t60 ?

If this is a serious question, then the answer depends upon the version of Windows you are using.
Usually, you simply click on the Start Button in the lower left corner of your monitor/screen, then look for options to Shut Down, or Shut Down and Restart.
Failing to find those items you can always use CTRL+ALT+DEL and when the result of that comes up, look for Restart as an option.
Best thing you can do is to find the Help options and read what Microsoft has written about controlling Windows. Find their Tutorial and spend some time reading and following it.

Hand-me-down IBM Thinkpad 600E 2645 has blinking LCD video XP O/S

This sounds to me like either your flourescent lighting tube is beginning to go bad ,,, or the inverter is going bad ... or even both. :-)

The cheapest and easiest solution for you is to simply replace the LCD screen (replacing the inverter or the tube are actually a bit cheaper, but not quite as easy to do - most computer repair centers will try to talk you into a new screen anyway). This is actually very simple for either you or someone you know who is an avid "do-it-yourselfer". IBM makes ity very easy. You will find easy, detailed instructions in the ThinkPad 600/600E (2645) Hardware Maintenance Manual, IBM S10L-9619-03 June 1999 available for FREE downloading in .pdf format on IBMs website. Follow this link to some really sweet deals on LCD screens for your 600e on eBay for under $35.00. http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=ibm+thinkpad+600e+lcd+screen&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_sop=12&_dmpt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&_odkw=IBM+tube&_osacat=0

Remember you can always connect an external monitor to your ThinkPad until your new screen arrives if you have one. The manual should also give you instructions to change out the tube if you wish to save a few more bucks and try that route. Hope this will FIX-YA! Please leave your feedback and let me know!

Can't go to setup, shows a lock and monitor popout

The system password been set in the BIOS. There is no way to clear this. You need to find out who set it. On many systems there is a jumper inside the computer that can be reset but this is not the case with IBM laptops. It is a security feature that requires a new chip to be installed. The only alternative is to return it to IBM.

Red Green stripes on IBM Thnikpad T60p tft monitor

Those are dead pixels if you want to get rid of them you will probably need to replace the monitor. They will probably charge you an arm and a leg to replace it so you might get a second quote from Computer repair shop.
