I noticed an electrical burning smell coming from the dryer. It smelled like it was originating from the front control panel. I removed the top of the dryer, removed the front panel and inspected the circuit boards. After isolating them I could tell the smell was not from them. I then removed the board that is on the side and above the drum. This board also smelled fine. The smell stays with the unit.Any ideas where this could be burning? It is an electrical smell for sure.

you can unplug the unit , and reomve the lower aces panel (3 screws along the front bottom of unit) youll probalby see an excess of lint built up in which case you can vacuum it out, and then check/clean and or replace your dryer vent

Unfortunately this is a quite general problem today as we are washing more and more in rather low temperatures. Gunk and slime packs up in the rubber gaskets and elsewhere in the machine, smells horrible if not kept under control.
There are a few things you can do.
1) The most important thing IMO is to make sure to wash at the highest temp at least once a week, 90-95 degrees Celcius.
2) Always leave the washing machine lid half open when not in use in order to allow the inside to dry.
3) A supplementary thing is to run an empty machine wash cycle once a month or so using bleach (chlorine) in the recommended dose for your machine. Use highest temp to maximize effect.
There is also some work that can be done with a rag, mechanically cleaning out the gasket and all accessible parts in the detergent compartment etc, however this may have quite limited effect. Worth trying nevertheless.
Good luck!

My dryer also will no longer heat. It is about 9 yrs old. I took the front panel off and found TONS of compact lint. Mine seems like the origin of the "fire" is near the motor (this is where the charcoaled lint has the heaviest soot). I tested all fuses and the dryer does still run, just blows cold air.
