Question about Amana ABB1927DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
My refrigerator is 2 years old. Over the last 3 months we have noticed a rattle. The rattle lasted only a few seconds at first now it lasts as long as a 15-20 seconds. This happens about 5 or 6 times in a 24 hour period. It sounds like it is coming from the compressor area. My brother-in -law took off the back panel & found nothing loose. What could it be? What could I check before calling a repair man? Thanks.
You only have some many things that can make noises inside your machine compartment. I agree with the previous guy, It's a condenser fan. Look for a wire hitting the fan blade. also, spin the blade when the unit is shut off see if it touches the fan shroud. Lastly, turn it on as you look into the back, do you see anything hitting (cond blade on shroud?) Maybe one more thing, check the torque on the four compressor bolts holding the compressor to the basepan. If one is loose, tighten it up (but don't overtighten)

Huthy, the fact that it's lasting 15 to 20 seconds leads me to believe that it could be one of the fan blades hitting. The valve springs on the compresser would make more of a clunk-clunk noise and wouldn't last that long. The evaporator fan in the freezer compartment has a grille that will snap on and off, clip on the bottom and tabs on the side. See if you can remove the grill and check to see if there is any ice build up around the evap. fan. The other fan, condensor is in back by the compressor, it could be hitting on the shroud upon start up or shut down. Check these things first and post back...Catriver
