Same problem. I would put new batteries in, and the camera will turn on. But, as soon as I press the button to take a picture, it will go black, and then either (1) open and close, or (2) stay black and beep with red & green lights flashing. Same problem. You can purchase Smartmedia 3.3 memory cards at Nextag.com, Amazon.com and eBay.com amongst others.
Make sure you buy Olympus or make sure you format any other purchased card in the camera.
BTW, you can purchase 128MB cards as well, not only 16 and 32MB.
Regards, Icom1
Unfortunately there is no camera in the Olympus product line that has webcam capability. The only reason you would connect the camera to the computer in the first place is to download the photos from the picture card to your MAC hard drive.
well..remove the battries again ..and re insert the battries...
while inseting the battries ensure that u follow the steps given below..
Make sure camera is turned off
The monitor is turned off.
The green lamp and orange lamp on camera is off.
The lens is not extended.
Just hit the flash mode button until the get the lightning bolt symbol meaning constant flash. I use this all the time on the same camera for a backlit subject when I need a fill flash

Can you get a memory card reader that works for a Mac?
If so then loading pic's to the 'puter through that route
Flashing red and green lights have a meaning- what does the manual say?[Check the more comprehensive manual on the Software disk]
You could buy[or borrow] another card- nothing wrong with having more that one.
Also try the card in another camera and a fresh card in yours[Take it a photo shop to try this]
well u can´t do a thing.... because when that happen it´s the mainboard that needs to be replaced, just sent it to a repair centre, if it´s under warranty they will fix it for free, cause it´s normal to happen with that kind of cameras.
