Re: picture stays on for 3 mins, then slowly disappears
Sounds like the filament of the picture tube is losing voltage. normally this would be caused by a bad/broken/cracked solder connection. If this is the problem, it may not be too dificult to fix if you have the soldering skills and know what to look for.

Sony Trinitron TV. Worked well last evening. Now picture won't go on. When power is turned on, standby/timer red light flashes, but picture or sound does not work.
Unfortunately, the CRT (Picture Tube) is reaching its very end. Your set is not feasible to service even if the CRT would still be available from Sony or any jobbers.
Hi, IK circuit is engaging which basically means the picture tube is getting tired, the only "fix" is temporary (may get another year out of it). You have to increase the "screen control clockwise".
Remove back of set, follow large black or red wire attatched to picture tube down to the flyback transformer, mounted on flyback are two black controls, one is focus (leave it alone) the other is "screen", adjust it clockwise approx. 1/4 inch, remember that this is a high voltage circuit so use one hand in the set the other hand out of the set at all times, any questions ? e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider
i've got the soldering skills - what do i look for?
